I am going to begin donating 10% of net website sales to charity. I'm thinking of the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Feed The Children.
The 10% will be sent DIRECTLY FROM CCBill so the charity will receive a weekly check on my behalf.
This donation will NOT affect affiliate pay in any way. The 10% will come directly out of MY paycheck. My "Single Girl" sites will not apply. But both AmateurMarket.net and NakedCollegeGirls.tv will be included in this.
What is your favorite charity? And why should I choose that charity?
This is serious. I am going to implement the donations THIS WEEK. If more of us did this, not only would we help make the world a better place, but we just might change a few opinions about our industry (maybe VISA would even soften up a bit).
Anyway, once my charity has been chosen, I'll make a big announcement.
PLEASE NOTE: This is 10% of Credit Card and Check sales. I will soon be installing a dialer and web900 option (thanks for adding those, CCBill). I don't know how those work quite yet, but if the monies from those go to my primary account number like the Credit Cards and Checks, those will be included also.
cause based marketing has been done to death. i hate that shit. i hate walking in a restaraunt that has a plaque on the wall telling me they give money to kids somewhere. if they do ... fine... it's great... BUT if their interest in helping people was genuine, it would not be used as a marketing tool and i personally would not need to know about it. i would rather just sit down and eat my meal without feeling like i am being treated like an idiot.
ps: change your nickname to "benandjerry" for better results.
I have always been a fan of Saint Jude's Childrens Hospital. My father went on a tour of Saint Judes one time, and because he was a doctor he got to see a lot of behind the scenes stuff. He was totally blown away by the work they do and from that point forward Saint Jude's was his favorite charity.
After my dad passed away, we donated all of his medical equipment to a friend of his who was with Doctors Without Borders.
I don't think you could go wrong with either organization...

I have no idea who you are. Are you a habitual pessimist? Businesses are constantly challenged to donate to charity when they see their competitors doing it. They try to "one-up" each other and the charities end up benefitting.
I was challenged to start doing this when I noticed ALSScan.com donates a percentage of their 1 Year sign ups to children's charities. I thought, "Hey, why don't *I* do that too? But instead of donating only percentages of 1 year joins, I'll donate on ALL credit card and check sign ups."
AND I'm hoping other webmasters will follow suit.
Let's say I donate $50,000 to St. Jude Children's hospital.... do you think the receiving families whose children's lives are saved will give a f--ck whether or not someone on an adult webmaster board feels sick and tired of hearing people using "charitable donations" as a "marketing tool"?
For some reason, I really don't think they will.

Anyone who makes big annoucements regarding donating to charity is not doing it for the right reason. When I see people brag, or talk about donating to charity as part of a marketing plan, I like JR, immediately get turned off. ( does not matter if its porn or non-porn)

Please see my reply to JR.
Does St. Jude's have an annual radio drive in your area? I know they do in mine. The bigger businesses all call in and try to outdo each other. Usually the only people that are heard bitching about it are the larger companies that DO NOT want to donate and don't appreciate receiving the "challenge" from their fellow business owners.

Originally posted by DonovanPhillips@Feb 5 2004, 01:08 PM That is exactly why I am filling out an "Accounts Split" form with CCBill. The money will be sent directly from CCBill, who will act as a sort of "Independent 3rd Party".

Also many of us here donate time and or money and or other resources
and we don't care to publicize it
and again I state - Charity begins at home
Whether or not I get a better result at other boards is really of no consequence to me.
It is easy to say one donates "time or money" when they also claim to do so anonymously. When someone comes onto a board and makes a public announcement, that announcement sort of binds them to follow through. Anonymous donations can go away easily when there is no one to be accountable to... I'm not saying anonymous donations aren't a good thing. Of course they are... but accountability also breeds responsibility. Know what I mean?
Charity begins at home... yes it does. We agree on that 100%. Let's say that everything at home is great... then what? Time to help others? I'd say so...
When my dad passed away, we asked that people make a donation to St. Judes in lieu of sending flowers. For a long time after that we recieved notices from St. Judes saying "a donation has been made by (insert name) in memory of..."
The one I liked the best was "a donation has been made by (a friend) in memory of..." Whoever it was did that every month for a few years, and I always respected the fact that the person wanted to remain anonymous...

(plus us going back and forth gets more eyes for ya)
Truthfully I'd use the program that makes the most $$$ and they do what I wanted to with the $$$
Vick,
Thanks.
99.99% would definitely choose the program that makes them the most money. Of course. That's why I mentioned in the original post that affiliate pay will not be affected by this. All donations come out of MY pocket, not that of my affiliates.

i would say that when i post, i tend to be fairly cynical. the message board is a marketing and promotional tool, nothing more. thats why everyone is here.
its great to give to charity. really great. but it can also be a tragic waste in what is nothing more than a feel good move or marketing ploy.
I dont think a recieving family cares about the blah blah blah. you are not the recieving family. you are the guy hoping to exploit the recieving family which contradicts the very concept of charity. that has always bothered me. cause based marketing to me is sort of offensive. i dont mind when its about saving the rain forest by buying a particular brand of food... i mind when its about exploiting a 4 year old girl with 3rd degree burns on 90% of her body for financial gain.
most organized charities are clusterfucks as someone pointed out already. federal tax law requires them to give away only 5% of their total net worth every year (used to be maybe recent changes occured). it was only a few years ago when they began to finally limit the salaries of directors and other "paid consultants" of charities who were paying themselves the bulk of the money taken in.
if you want to be a good guy go find a girl who needs a liver in a hospital and pay for it. that would be an amazing act and you would not need to impress us by letting us know about it. you could just go help the little girl.
