I know most of you are old...and mebbe someone has some carpenter skills. To make a long story short, I have 1000's of books (I'm a degenerate bibliophile - sue me) and I put up shelves on my den wall to hold some of them because you can only fit so many bookcases in one room. I'm probably moving from my condo in the next couple months but in removing one shelf, I'm left with a hole in the wall about the size of a half dollar in the drywall where the screw wasn't cooperative in coming out so I got pissed and yanked the fucker out.
Does anyone have any tips on how to fix this - or am I gonna have to call a carpenter? It's too big to just putty in, I tried that and it keeps falling into the wall when I sand it.
Damn, this oprano family is a helpful fuckin' bunch...remind me when some of you you ask about traffic, how to get it, and how to convert it to return the favor of silence. Some of the people reading this know exactly what that means. I've showm people here how to make a living just off what I told them. That ends for the rest of you now.
And if the people I've helped, share with their "students" what I've showm them, it's over.

lol hit me up it wasnt that long ago i had to get dirty for a living, im sure i can help you out, depends what you have handy for tools.
Get a small board the same size as the whole (anything will work) and then stick it in the whole, turn it so it blocks the back of the whole, then put 2 screws into it, one on each side of the whole, then puddy. Should give it enough backing to stay put for the sanding.
And the important thing is to NOT have to sand much afterwards
So in short, stick something in the whole befor you puddy it, the stronger the better (hence the screws)

Damn thats a lot of work for a hole in the wall in a place he aint even going to be living in LOL
Bung it up with toilet papers, spackle over it, sand it, paint it, have a beer
Lee's idea should work ... so would a small dab of drywall mud, which may be no more expensive than spackling compound in small sizes (I buy my drywall mud in 5 gallon buckets - one of the joys of a 100+ year old house).
I've also seen that fixed with caulk too.

As a "retired" cabinet maker, I can tell you that most everyone in the business thinks Bob Vila is a total dickhead. He's rude and obnoxious. Some poor carpenter gets his 10 seconds on television and Bob cuts him off in mid sentence to say "Well, thanks there Sluggo, let's go to a commercial..." Hey Bob, pick up a fucking piece of lumber once in a while instead of standing there with your hands in your pockets. Dickhead...
Now that I have adequately bashed Bob Vila, it's a simple fix. If you're moving you might get some of that mesh tape to put over the hole and then spackle over it. It won't be the best fix ever, but it'll last until you sell the place. If you want to get fancy, you can cut the half dollar sized hole into a bigger square hole, and get some wood behind it. What you do is get a strip of wood and put it into the hole and then hold it up against the inside of the sheet rock so that you can run some screws through and hold it in place. Then you've got something as backing material. Cut a piece of sheetrock to match the opening, smear some spackle on the edges and smush it all into place. Then keep spackling until you can't tell which is the wall and which was the hole. Ah, fuck it... use the mesh tape, it's a whole lot easier.
edit: looks like everyone typed faster than I did. Maybe I shouldn't have spent so much time bashing poor old Bob. heh...
I'm pissed off - I just knocked a whole in my wall. My landlord is cool and wont' even charge me for breaking the lease if I give him a month's notice. (considering what I pay it's not much of a gift really but still he's cool and I still have to ge this fixed). I'll get back to this when I'm sober and not angry.

Thanx for your replies and help. I appreciate it.
HAHA
Well you should have said you were drunk and pissed off.
A'ight - I just bought more spackling stuff, a piece of plywood & some screws this morning. BTW - there's some hot chicks working at Menards. I never thought a girl in a tool belt would look good...live and learn. It's a bit disturbing to think of a woman PMS'n with a hammer handy but still...
I'll give you an update as to whether I totally destroyed the wall or it worked. Thanx again for the tips.
I was thinking (painful) what is on the other side of the wall?
Maybe do a glory hole set up, film a few episodes and sell them for funds to get Bob fucking Villa in to fix it. Hey I'm a capitalist porn slinger, what did you expect
On a serious note
Sincerely sorry to hear of your situation aeon

Don't worry about it vick - I have a tougher skin than that when it comes to boards. Board shit aint gonna upset me You're one of the very few people from boards I'd probably enjoy hanging out with.
My mom passed a few years ago and it took a helluva lot of out both my father and I. I was a walking time bomb for about a year. I spent about a year drunk and overtly angry - it's lucky I didn't end up in prison or dead...it was worse for my dad, he was with her for over 40 years...so it crushed him literally - he went from being a man that looked 45 to looking his age in a matter of months. The last time he visited I could see he's slipping. My brother's a worthless bum - he won't work and only calls when he needs money. There's no way I can rely or trust him so I think it's best if I move closer to my dad to look out for him and be close enough to spend some time. He's hinted that he'd like me closer so we can fish and do things. I think it's time.
I'll get this shit with the wall figgered out or I'll tear the fucker down in a rage...
I do appreciate your concern tho and don't worry about saying anything inappropriate
That's the last of my "opening up" on a message board cause if the truth is known I'd dance is most of you died.
I don't care what you people think and it aint bragging. When I was in school and even before I did dog work. Running jackhammers, lumping boxes, carrying shingles, carrying rolls of sheet metal to fabricate gutters...for fly by night companies that didn't even pay over time.
You'd better be thankful for the net because if it wasn't for it...99% of you would starve to death. Your board ego's and oprano family won't put food on the table or pay yer rent.
I worked like a dog at times and I'm not ashamed of it. I had to eat and other than stealing there was no other way to do it. Making money off net porn is cheese...try leaving porn and getting a job - you'd better get used to ramen.

I'm done with this thread.
Ever used megaskates to move a 300 ton plant press half a mile, then you and 10 other fools have to jack it 5' up on to a concrete plinth?
What you need to do is apply a "California Hot Patch". They work great for things like this or when you knock a hole in your drywall with a door knob, fist, etc...
Basically you get a piece of drywall about 3" in diameter larger than the hole you are going to patch. on the backside of the drywall cut a "circle" the same size/shape as the hole you are patching and then *gently* break away the drywall surrounding it being *very careful* to not damage the paper on the front side. Then just generously mud the hole and surrounding wallboard apply the patch and mud over it several coats until you have a smooth wall again.
Go to HomeDepot and ask them about applying a "California Hot Patch" - they'll likely be able to demonstrate visually what I just described. They may even be selling 'kits' for this now...

Hold the phone....
For a guy that's done this, a hole in a wall should be a breeze... You're a self confessed practical man...

Ask me to lump boxes - I can do it.
Need someone to shingle your roof and in all likelyhood I can do it.
Need someone to cut a piece of your driveway out - give me a concrete saw and I can do it.
Need someone to mix and pour concrete - I can do it, just not finish it.
Ask me to do drywall or any carpentry work and you get an off center clusterfuck that looks like some sort of demented modern art tumor stuck to a wall.
This shit aint as easy as they make it seem on TV.
Aeon speaks the truth... There are many different phases of contruction, and all those come with different skills. Once in a while we would get a framer who would come to work in the cabinet shop. It was always a disaster... to a framer, if it's within a quarter inch, it's good. In cabinetry you want to be accurate within a half millimeter. It's all different stuff...
