With all the lawsuits on spammers , etc etc...

I really think the next conference should be here in Canada or down in OZ.

Seriously...

Panama, and the philipines would both be good options too.

Screw that - make it Eastern Europe...you get a few people willing and I'll help organize it for the hell of it (no bullshit). Moscow & St. Petersburg would rock - think of the fun a bunch of smut slingers could have aside from the actual sight seeing.

The vodka, hookers, and emails would flow like there's no tomorrow. A bunch of porn peddlers hanging out at the Kremlin and Kolomenskoye are fuckin' Kodak moments just waiting to happen.

I am kind of with you Nick. But, I am more of an anti-AVN sponsored event type of guy. I won't go to another of their shows until their locations and dates are swapped. I know it will never happen but if attendance keeps decreasing, they may not have a choice. More money to display and attend with less people going just doesn't work out right. Remember Florda in October??? Much better than a visit to the Sixth Gate of Hell in August.

Ehh, screw it...they won't change.

I am with you guys but who is going to cover the costs

Its easy to say it but that will exclude alot of webmasters - even the small time ones from going to them

Why don't you sponsor them to fly there say about 25 or so and give it away on the boards

full flight, room and board and passes?

Back pre 2000, someone told me, I can't remember who it was, that the Adult Web was the Wild Wild West. WWW get it?

However, as with all things, corporations will take over, and lawyers become the gunslingers.

Back then, the small webmaster meant something, they could become the next big guy with traffic.

Sadly, I doubt that could happen to day. Our industry is filled with TGP gallery makers, and clueless morons who think a high post count matters where it counts the most, the check book. Good webmastes are getting harder and harder to find, they are out there, but are few and far between.

I don't see any reason to sponsor anyone to go to any trip to a convention. Just going to a convention is a filter of sorts. If you can't get to one, you really should think about a career change.

What I am seeing now are webmasters that are specializing and make a very good living out of it. With design, coding, etc. But the next big traffic guy? Not happening anytime soon.

Nah... they'll never change. Why the hell would they do a crazy thing like that..?!

Seriously though... the shows aren't going to change to something that specifically suits you. They are going to change to what the majority request - as best they can. In a recent feedback form sent out to all Jan. Internext attendees and exhibitors, a VAST number of all respondents stated that they would prefer to stay in Vegas for the January show... (too bad really, I was hoping for San Francisco or Seattle for a change...)

If you ever have ANY feedback about AVN or Internext, let me know. aly@avn.com

Sorry if you're really planning to skip the show in Florida this summer, it's looking like it's going to be quite the event.

Oh... and to answer another question.. AOE has a somewhat decent (and growing) US webmaster turnout. It's in Prague this year, April 20-22.

Are you telling me that the majority of the webmasters enjoy Florida in August? They wouldn't prefer someplace a little less oppressive? Or did you just ask about where webmasters would like to have a show a few days after New Year?

Aly, you know as well as everyone else that it is only about the money. Nothing wrong with that but when people stop going, something needs to be done. Perhaps not forcing people to go to the hottest most humid place in the US in August might help.

So tell me, how is this years Florida in August going to be different than any other year. Except for less people going I mean.

OF COURSE it's about the money! Internext can't afford NOT to listen to it's audience. But come on Jim, don't you agree that there might be a little more to the changes you DO see at Internext than price points? I see the shows as very reflective of the changes this entire industry goes through. We're not spending the money we used to on loud music, flashing booths, skimpy booth-bunnies and open bars. There's not an awful lot the show managers can do about that if we're still going to do big conventions. That said... Florida Internext is substantially different. this year the entire hotel's being taken over by sponsors, and while there are still (totally revamped) seminars and a show floor, nobody is required to buy booth space in order to participate in other ways (as a result of client feedback). The focus is being taken away from the show floor (while it still exists to provide companies with a place to exhibit and meet) and and on to the entire experience as a whole. It's promising to be a lot more interesting because a company can now choose to market themselves by pretty much whatever means can be dreamed-up. This change, as I mentioned, is a direct result of listening to the audience and acting on what they want.

As far as the location goes, this isn't a Vegas-type event (although Vegas in August is hotter than hell in a heatwave anyway) - it's a conference now, so it works well with the type of facility the Diplomat Resort is. The show managers have/ continue to look elsewhere for future potential event locations but the options are remarkably limited (IN THE US... to get back to the initial subject! ..)

And on a different note, while I general detest Florida at any time of year, I've rather liked going to the Florida show - as a client - in the past. I'm not alone in that.

I couldn't agree more that Internext staff haven't communicated well with their audience in the past... that's kind of why I decided to jump in here, but what I'm finding is that while there's a lot to 'fix' an awful lot of it is more around customer relations than anything else. ie: they never actually responded to the complaints we all posted about the events in public forums!

I have no interest defending crap... actually I have no interest working in crap either... LOL... I see something we can all work with here and have every intention of pushing thru the changes the industry needs, so please do hit me up personally with any ideas or requests.

I could have sworn I voted for Seattle. Damn.

I can understand the Florida locale. It's off season and the price is right...still...I just hate Florida in the summer....it drowns my lungs with the humidity. Is that a reason not to go? Maybe....

Those heavenly beds, though, are awesome and it's nice having the entire hotel just for us, along with a beach and a pool area as large as the one offered at the Diplomat.

I just hate Florida. Period. Did I mention that?

Seattle is such a perfect location, as it suits the west coast and Canada....it just sucks for East Coast people, I guess.

Is there any ideal location that would please everyone? I doubt it.

So, two internext locations....one west, one east...or both in Vegas...one in Mid January to give us a chance to recover from Christmas and New Year's...and one in June before it gets stifling.

LOL... Seattle would be great! ... But it was rather unpopular!

I agree with all your pros and cons... and YES... I really am pushing very fucking hard for a slightly different winter show date, but it's not just for me to decide... so cross your fingers!)

the rates on everything would go down, and the timing for people to get over the hooliday period would have passed, like say hold both AVN and internext at the END of january that way they can still be held together but with out all the town being cluttered with CES people...
Great feedback.. duly noted, and thanks!

That's the hardest part about the winter show...the close proximity to Christmas/New Years....

Vegas was ok for me cause i was able to attend 3 shows in one week - though i must admit that the city was extremely crowded.

for the florida show i'd wish it was at another time - that weather nearly fucking killed me. but who am i to complain.

Just a thought..... the AVN show has to be opposite CES - that is the point......

but, maybe Internext could follow AVN instead of before.....

would give just a little more breathing room, yet allow those who want to take in all 3 - to do so?

Man, y'all are as wimpy about heat as I am about the cold.

I don't even notice it getting hot here. I notice when it is cold though. 40s this morning and waiting for it to heat up so I can go jogging.

The heat never bothered me , in fact I loved it.

I miss living in Florida , or even spending winters there.

Living in Manalapan was excellent but Oralando suited me better, Golf ,Disney SeaWorld etc...everyday.

I went to the first off-season Florida Internext, and that was enough for me.
Haven't been back.
I'd probably be more inclined to go if they were to return to New Orleans.
Has Boston ever been considered? From some accounts, I hear they are an open minded city.

But I do like the January Internext show. Pushing it forward to mid January would be a good idea too. I just like the break in the middle of a cold Montreal winter to go to Vegas for a week. I think a lot of people think that way too.

I would rather the Florida show be in New Orleans. It would still be hot but atleast we would have the French Quarter and a casino to play in. When I go to Vegas I actually hit the town.. when I go to Florida I basically stay at the hotel. New Orleans in 1999 (I think) was a blast.

I do agree that Vegas Internext should be pushed back toward the end of the month and away from CES.

Here is another idea.. merge Internext and AVN. Do it this way..
Same show floor. Companies that would be attending both shows would have their booths set up at the front of the hall. Companies that would only be attending the Internext show would have their booths set in the back of the hall. Have the Internext show first. 3 days of Internext. On day 3 let the AVN crowd hit the floor and have a booth at the same time as Internext. Industry people on day 3 not consumers. The show floor would close early as usual on day 3. When the floor closes all the Internext companies would either remove their booth or re-skin the booth. Day 4 the AVN show starts.

I'm taking note of all of your suggestions (literally so). Thanks! There are a bunch of factors that limit the options available to us, but it's great to have as much feedback as possible when it comes time to actually choose between those options.

I'm shocked to hear the support for New Orleans! I personally detested doing a show there... The weather was awful, the crowds were crazy, and the convention labourers were so inefficient I think they're still working on my booth from 99! Although, that was the best Nat Net suite ever...

The Internext show timing was pretty awful with the weather and rivalary between the two football teams & fans that were there that weekend. Many felt threatened on Burbon St. It left a bad taste in the mouth of many attendees. Because of that we have never ventured back.

Our show in June was pretty great..... no incidents & the weather was just starting to turn muggy. Having everyone at the Hilton was a plus. ... and yes, having a nightclub atop the building to throw parties was awesome!

2000 was the year of both Fay's New Orleans show and also Internext.

I remember the football game that brought all those college kids to the city, but I don't remember it being a problem. It didn't affect me, anyway.

I agree with Bishop. In New Orleans there is so much more to do. The weather isn't much different, but it's tough to escape humidity in August almost no mater where you go. Unless it's Newfoundland!

I would like to see the off-season show go back to New Orleans.

And Aly, many very successful shows have been held in Canada. None of them AVN shows. What does AVN have against Canada?
