Like anyone else I have good days and bad days. When you're in your 40's you often do an assessment of your life. There are days when I look back and think that I've had a wonderful life and other days when I beat myself up thinking that I should be doing more with my life.
I look around me and I think that people are generally good. Fortunately I am able to see beyond the bullshit and get down to the core of a person and see the positive. Then sometimes I look at people and I feel truly sorry for them to be so inflicted with assholeness. It's obvious they have a chip on their shoulders.
Bush serving another term has me worried. If Kerry had won I think I would be feeling differently now and more positive. I'm trying to focus on my immediate environment but then I watch the news and hear Bush's course and it truly frightens me. What frightens me more is how many people refuse to see the course of this and badly we could regress. Especially adult internet companies who support his agendas ~ wow is all I say. He is so conservative and ultimately could have a very big impact on censorship.
Oh damn… sorry…
I guess I will say 7 and waiting cautiously.

The world is a 10 for me because it is what it is. I don't have any expectations, hopes, dreams or aspirations that it should be any different than it is. Even the "bad" stuff is at least interesting. I give the "bad stuff" a 10 too. Even those whacky Muslim terrorists are a riot. "Omar Terrorist" -> h34r:
Maybe I'd think differently if I were born at the bottom of a caste system. As it was I was born into lower-class America and thus subjected to after school specials which drilled such mantras as "you can be anything you want to be" into my head. I made the logical decision and entered the best profession there is - smut peddler.
Life is good.

Yeah, me too. Year 2000 was the end of time.
Society is much more resilient than many people give it credit for.

Sometimes those rose tinted lenses can cause havok on reality
sometimes I wonder if the world has actually gotten worse or we just get more exposure to the bad then we used to...
With the Internet, 24 hour news channels, embedded reporters, etc. we have access to more news then we ever have before. We also have more access to information (good and bad) then ever before.
Maybe you’re fucked no matter how you look at it. You can burn in hell or get blown up by terrorist. I think I’d rather blame someone else then admit that I’m dirty, nasty sinner who deserves to go to hell! Lol Oh wait… ok, maybe that's is a good thing after all. Does hell have Grey Goose?

Personally.. Ordinarily, i'd say 10, but the last few months have been shit for me. Long term relationship is over and my wrist is broken. So currently, 6, and going back up towards 10.

'the world is what it is' ...
the world doesn't change much in a year, but how we feel living in it changes every day ... so what's the variable?
perception!
the theory is easy ... putting it into practice is a challenge - a rewarding one.

So in some way you view it as having got worse.
I view it as much better. I think the world of the 21st century is much better than that of say, the 18th.

Did you know that tooth related illnesses killed thousands in year gone by...
I've read that London during the early Victorian period and before was like running the gauntlet.
""Life expectancy has increased steadily through history. During the Roman Empire, average life expectancy at birth was a brief 22 years. By the Middle Ages it had risen to about 33 years in England, and increased to 43 years by the middle of the 19th century. In the early 1900s, life expectancies in more developed countries ranged from 35 to 55. They have climbed to about 75 years today, and continue to improve. Meanwhile, life expectancy in less developed countries has gradually climbed, rising to about 64 years in 1995."""
Agreed - the world have never been better from a human point of view... I think we are on the doorstep of a new "renaissance", where we cast away some of those fears, ideologies (both political and religious), systems, illness etc. which have plagued and trapped humankind for hundreds of years (if not thousands). Technology will be that force, which will make it happen - and I´m sure in hundreds of years from now people will look back at this time as the beginning of a new era rather than the end.
Doomsayers have always been here and will continue their negative spread, however fact is that not a single doomsayer have ever been right ;-)))...
There are big problems in the horisont, however I fear not if we will solve them, only *how* we will solve them... but no matter what, then the end result will be that humankind will be better of tomorrow, than yesterday.
Here is my 10+ to the world

that really puts all of our bitching and moaning about trivial shit into perspective huh?
from now on, anyone who pisses me off (lets not get into how me being pissed off is a reaction to my own perception of an action ) i'm going to say
"Shutup, if this was the 1900's you'd be dead by now!!!!"
Basically according to that paragraph, we have almost doubled our life expectancy in the last 100 years ...
So ok, we live longer lives, have better material things, but do you think its better that our lives are longer? Do we treat our 75 years with the respect they deserve or do we waste half of them trying to figure out why we live for 75 years?!

Results vary by contents. I'm just reaching the halfway point but I plan to continue the pursuit of happiness. It doesn't seem that difficult. You just walk around, get in adventures, do some things you like, deal with some stuff you don't, take a "nooner", take a nap, read a book, take some meds, play a video game, eat a good dinner, take a trip, see something you've never seen before, have the time of your life and then still be happy to get home and do it all over again.

Originally posted by Jesse_DD@Nov 23 2004, 08:10 AM That life expectancy argument is a little misleading. I have studied this with respect to the Romans and what was found is that the reason life expectancies were so low through most of history was because of the infant mortality rate. Very few kids actually made it out of childbirth - which dramatically reduces the life expectancy. If you take this into consideration one historian argued that the average life expectancy in Rome times would have actually been in the 60's.
Just food for thought.
But anyways, I would imagine that the 1 - 10 numbers changes
quite frequently for most people. I probably hover between 7 - 9
on a regular basis.
Infant deaths are no walk in Guell Park either.
