I dont try to do any real business or support on GFY, signal to noise ratio over there just isn't conducive. We're easy to find via the support link.

I did look at what he was talking about and learned something. Somewhere along the way, the NATS news update and the file the front page new is pulled from have become disconnected. My error, it's likely been that way since the 3.0 upgrade. So if you login, you got current news, but just looking at the outside pages it had ancient stuff up. Since I'm always logged in, I never noticed. Programmers and admins should never be allowed to do their own QA.

I did a touch up fix and will do something more thorough sometime when I have time so Smarty grabs the right stuff.

I will tell you what, gfy may be a mad house and may be more than some people can handle, but I make a damn good amount of money from that place

no offense to gonzo because he does run another board, but boards with real business value that have members that have money to spend are few and far between these days, but gfy NEVER lets me down

in fact, most of the other boards that people told me to post on because they are "all business" are usually full of cheap fuckers, people that want everything but complain even when you offer the lowest price you could imagine for the product.....but when I post on gfy I never get one single person complaining, and on top of that I end up with a completely booked week

for instance, I made ONE single post on there wednesday of last week and have been booked solid all weekend from that one post....Gonzo can tell you, I am working my little tushy off lately and making some pretty decent money....all from GFY

I made the same post on 6 "real business" boards last Monday and got one person wanting to hire me

GFY is a great place to market. I know I love the surfers over there.

actually, most of the business I have been getting is from professionals.....I am now on staff as the "blog guy" for 4 large programs, all that was done via GFY

there are SO many people lurking over there it is out of control....my most common first line of an email is "hey, i saw your post on gfy and all thought I don't personally post on there I always enjoy reading your posts....i was wondering if you would be interested in....."

I just dont have time for it over there. And hell I paid enough for this board ... its like buying a new car. Ill drive what belongs to me a lot more.

I will agree with you on that point.

If I'm actively marketing something, you'll see me show up on GFY a bit more regularly to push it. It's simply a question of number of eyeballs.

However, I dont actively go over there looking for business and certainly dont want that to become a place where I *have* to hang out because people expect support questions answered there. The volume is too much. If I were actively using GFY as part of my business, I'd have to buy an ad over there and hire someone to pretty much do nothing but monitor it. Otherwise I'd spend all my time on the board and have no time to actually do the work I was generating.

Right now, I'm maxed out as is....I dont need/want any more work than I already have. So you'll find me in places that I *want* to read. I dont see that changing before end of summer. As always, what most people call the "summer slowdown", I call "retool time" to have new stuff ready for the fall when the dorms open back up.
