How ridiculous.. I'm so sick and tired of chasing people for money! And unfortunately it's always the BIG companies that push you under the rug, but when they want something done, it has to be rush rush rush, then when it's time to pay it's delay delay delay. Why the hell do people pull this shit? Some of my smaller clients, they don't even bat an eyelash when it comes to paying on delivery. Why is it that the big guys worth the big bucks seem to be the ones most likely to piss around about payment? I mean I understand they have accounting departments, etc, but when a project is undertaken with the agreement of "payment on delivery", delivery doesn't mean 3 weeks after they've already started using the materials. I normally ask for a deposit of half up front, which I think is fair, but if this bullshit continues, I'm goign to have to ask for full payment up front. This is getting beyond absurd. |

Know the feeling.
Had a mainstream client that insisted on the use of an online supplier portal and refused to deal with invoices over the phone. You wanna try dealing with British companies, you can quite legally be kept waiting for up to 90 days for payment and it's 30 days minimum. |

"You haven't got that yet? I sent it out last thursday..." "I sent it over to payroll, would you mind also invoicing them and I'll remind them..." "I told xxxxxxx to send that out already, they didn't? Well, I am pissed, let me get on their asses..." "Wrong wire number" "Bank fucked up the wire" "I was at the bank the other day and a robbery was going down. Well, I pulled out my pistol to try and stop it and ended up exchanging gunfire with the robber and shot him in the leg. Now, the FBI is all up on me asking me questions and shit about it. Been a crazy day man...I'll send it first thing in the morning." (All excuses that I have heard since working in adult...including the last one. )The sad thing is, I suppose most of them believe that we designers are dumb enough to believe the bowl of shit they serve up. Luckily now, I am working with guys I don't have to worry about that with anymore. Good luck LadyM. I feel your pain ma'am...

Yep, heard all of those and more from many of the big guys... I think I still have an unpaid invoice from adult.com from like, almost 3 years ago now. it was a small amount so after sending an invoice 10 different times, being passed around to three different people, I just gave up. What really pisses me off is a lot of these people come back a week later and want more work, but haven't finished paying for the last job I did for them. I think I'm going to instate a full up-front policy for these people, because I'm tired of my schedules (and bank accounts) being subject to their whims. |

Yeah I've had this happen a few times.. Generally I don't accept a third order from them, or I ask for payment up front. If they aren't willing to do that, they don't need my services that badly. I'm fortunate enough to be in a position to pick and choose my clients to a large extent, man I can't imagine having to rely on some of these people whatsoever. |

I have to admit after working for a "large program" there are many times payments get lost in the maze. The trick, at least with WEG, was to not let it go long. Once they were made aware there WAS a problem, it was rectified (unless it got lost in the maze again, which happened every so often).
Dealing with major corps outside adult many times give you the same situation. |

I mean, they are VERY concerned about keeping in touch when they have that project they need completed. Time for payment? Can't seem to get them on ICQ, email, call the office get the "he just stepped out" treatment. It's bullshit and ridiculous. Simple solution for me has always been though, once I see that happen a few times, I don't answer company "X" when they want something done anymore. Problem/headache deleted.

Oh, I agree Nick - and WEG's situation was never a problem with funds - just things getting lost, someone thinking someone else is handling it, etc.

Most of the companies I am dealing with, there's NO QUESTION the funds are there, I think a lot of it is just disorganization, really. |
