So you're a 13th century BC pharoah and you go through a LOT of trouble in order to have the proper afterlife. Mummification, memorize all the proper passwords to get safely to the afterlife, doing good deeds in order to have a successful weighing of one's heart, arranging to be provided with food and drink, being entombed with one's worldy goods, building a pyramid. You know, simple stuff like that.
Then the next thing you know, 3300 years laters your mummified remains are being displayed in a glass case in a Cairo Museum. Unethical or not? Respect the dead? What's the statute of limitations on that?

I think its ethical... now if someone was still alive who knew or was related to the pharoah, then it would be another matter.
Personally I have not decided yet, how I will end up...
So far I think that getting cremated, and then have ones bone fragments mechanically reduced to ashes - will be the best way to prevent any fucked up things happening to your "afterlife" (ex. your skull ending on someones bookshelf).
But donating my body to Gunther von Hagens and becoming a "modern" mummy is also appealing - only problem is that I do not know how he should display me yet... (sitting infront of a computer or fucking a female pornstar mummy ;-)))

I would equate it to raiding grants tomb, billy the kid etc.... icons seem to always be an open book for historians ( in my view that is how history is verified)
what would they have done if Jesus would have still been in the tomb?

That part of it *is* the afterlife.

I see no problem. Why?
If the damned Pharoah hasn't figured out how to cross the River Styx in 3,300 years, then he's screwed already.
On that interesting note, if you're ever in Toronto and you haven't been to see Bill Jamieson's place, you definitely want to go. Among his shrunken heads and other preserved oddities, he ended up being the fellow who had Ramses I (which is now in Egypt via Emory University) sarcophagus in his possession when he bought out the curiousities museum in Niagra.
Very interesting place to visit, very interesting guy. I'd never seen a shrunken head before, nor a two-headed goat baby that had been taxidermied either.
I mean, I got myself all worked up into a righteous liberal frenzy prepared to deliver a (well thought out and articulate, of course) frenzied tirade about imperialist western nations stealing the national treasures of third world coutnries, and now I can't us it.
All dressed up and no place to go ...
