I am watching a special on a shark attack and what do i hear? Bull sharks can easily survive with no problems in fresh water!! Fuck me!! Now even coastal fresh waters connected to the ocean are off limits to me!!

So I'm guessing you wont be touring the Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay anytime soon...
Oh it's cool to look at them in a display and shit where I don't have to be in the water..... but the ocean is off limits as are coastal rivers and such now!!
A drunk guy swam across the local river here one saturday night a few years ago and was attacked by a Tiger shark.. and we are 25-30km from the coast. (kids can hand feed the schools of bull sharks ya big wuss TE) ;-)

I read a long article a few months ago about the 1916 New Jersey shark attacks in a coastal river. It is mentioned here:
While the great white is the shark that most people immediately think of when shark attacks are mentioned, the bull shark may be responsible for the most attacks on humans. Part of the reason is that they often move up rivers for short distances. One of the most famous shark attack cases occurred in New Jersey along the coast and upriver. From July 1st to July 6th, 1916, five people were attacked by sharks, four of them fatally. The climax came on the 6th when an 11 year old boy named Lester Stillwell was attacked and pulled under. A 24 year old man named Stanley Fisher was one of those who dove into the water to try to rescue Lester. Fisher was bitten on the thigh and died in the hospital. A mere 400 m away, a group of boys were told of the attacks and were in the process of climbing out of the water. Twelve year old Joseph Dunn was bitten on the leg but recovered fully. A 2,25 m (7 1/2") great white was captured in the ensuing shark hunt and the stomach contained flesh and bones which were reported to be human, but a positive identification of this was never made. The attacks did stop after this, but many ichthyologists believe the shark that made the attacks was a bull shark.

The scariest sharks in there were the reef sharks.
Not sure what's in there now, I haven't gone thru in about 3 years, but when it first opened back around 2001 or so they had one in there that I'd guestimate to be around a 14 footer.
Wow, I have heard that some sharks can survive in fresh water but have never researched it. I’m in FL I would have to break out the Glock 21 if I saw a shark swimming up the canal behind my house.
Wonder is they make a harpoon attachment for the 45. caus then I could have a shark BBq!
Everyone is invited.
I got some cool pics of a big ass gator right behind my house. Ill throw a link up latter. they are at home.
Originally posted by Azure Sales@Jul 6 2004, 08:27 AM Hello does no one remember that JAWS was based on Bull Shark attack at the turn of the century in a New Jersey river?
ahhh a degree in marine bio finally comes to some use.
Just remember - as soon as you enter the water - fresh or salt, you are no longer top of the food chain....
That's actually what the National Geographic special opened with... (we're NG, Discovery Channel nuts @ our house - lol) I watched this one with the kids this weekend... great show... really showed a lot of the investigative process that goes behind determining what type of shark would be considered "guilty" of the attacks...
It was nice for the kids to see that one on TV talking about the Jaws thing...
*gasp* Sewer Sharks?!?!? I hope that one's not on next!
BTW - anyone know when Shark Week is planned? Isn't it around August sometime? I miss the old Shark Week back when it was 24/7 sharks. We'd all stay up late so we wouldn't miss a thing... now it's just a couple hours' segments spaced throughout the day...
