To tour or not to tour...

I'm looking for the general consensus on paysite tours.

Mostly paysites come with the typical splash page and a few tour pages, but I've seen allot of sites out there with only the splash page then straight to the join page (Nicks sites and the Flashcash sites)

Do you guys think that if it's good enough a splash page will do on it's own?

Just wanna get a heads up because we've been getting varying levels of success with both methods...

If I were a porn surfer I think the more the better. But Flash Cash has done well and still converts years later with their one and two pagers. Guess I'd make a bad porn surfer then.

Would be good if you can get input from paysite owners with multiple tours and hear how the two stack up against each other. (In numbers we trust.)

Dunno what is wise, seeing my european stats versus usa stats i might go with just a splash page......

Doing 1:50 max in the netherlands, most are just simple sites take a look at one of my dutch sites www.tavello.com (warning 1 popunder) almost NO traffic and still doing 1:13 with this one...... most sites just 1 page

With my hentai network doing 1:500

also just splashpages...

Always did better with one page all hot to join page.

I would think it depends on your traffic , ie the link that got them there effects the mind and expectation of the surfer. ( lol , as Neitsche said , I believe...)

Thanks for your input guys... I've also been thinking it might have allot to do with the niche as well...

Because our test page for our teen site is doing well with the splash page then straight to join, but it doesn't seem to work with our general hardcore site... seems the surfer wants to do a massive tour to see what we offer...

I think it's something we're going to have to tweak and tweak to get it right...

i've always done a mixture ... and i decide with a complicated formula of 'i could be bothered' divided by 'will it make a difference' plus some 'how many good pics do i have handy' LOL

the best advice i can give is variety .... if you are aiming at affiliates, do some long tours, some short ... webmasters can then choose the ones they know work best on their traffic.

long tours work best if your site requires surfer education - ie, most reality sites require you read to get into the concept and the longer those tours, the more convinced the surfer is that its real. if your site is 'this is what we have - now buy it' then short tours are enough.

I think overall you are better off having more tours than longer tours
