BUSH DISHONESTY TAKES CENTER STAGE

President Bush attacked his opponents today, saying, "If you're going to make an accusation, you ought to back it up with facts." (1) But on everything from the economy to national security, this high standard stands in sharp contrast to the president's own behavior.

On Iraq, President Bush said before the war that Iraq "recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa" (2) despite the CIA previously warning the White House not to make this factually inaccurate statement (3). He also said there was "no doubt the Iraqi regime continues to possess the most lethal weapons ever devised" (4) despite receiving repeated warnings that there was little hard evidence Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction after 1991 (5). He even said that "we found the weapons of mass destruction" when none had been found (6).

On economic policy, President Bush said that, with his tax plan, "by far the vast majority of the help goes to the people at the bottom end of the economic ladder." (7) In fact, according to Congress' bipartisan Joint Committee on Taxation, households making less than $40,000 - roughly the bottom half of the economic ladder - would receive only 10 percent of Bush's income tax cut.

On the budget, President Bush said, "This nation has got a deficit because we have been through a war." (8) He said this two months after his own budget acknowledged that his economic policies and tax cuts for the wealthy - not the war - were what created the largest deficits in American history. (9)

Meni, what you know or understand about economics could be written on the head of a pin with enough room left over to write everything you know or understand about politics.

From Boortz today:

JOHN KERRY CAUGHT IN A NEW LIE ... MAKE THAT LIES

This is going to be a common theme throughout this election, and the Bush campaign needs to seize on this right away. Not only does the Democratic nominee for president switch positions as he sees fit, but Senator John Kerry just tells outright lies. That's right; when the truth doesn't suit his purpose, he just concocts something that does. Do you think the mainstream media would let a Republican get away with something like that? Of course not.

Today's tall tale centers on none other than the brutal communist dictator 90 miles off the Florida coast, Cuban President Fidel Castro. While pandering for Hispanic votes in Sunday's Miami Herald, Kerry said "I'm pretty tough on Castro, because I think he's running one of the last vestiges of a Stalinist secret police government in the world. And I voted for the Helms-Burton legislation to be tough on companies that deal with him" Sounds like pretty much the same thing as President Bush, right? Well, the newspaper did a little digging, and once again, Kerry's past comes back to haunt him.

It turns out that Senator John Kerry actually voted against the Helms-Burton legislation. Never let the facts get in the way of good campaigning, right? Let's just see if the media calls Kerry out on this one at his next press conference.

I doubt it.

Oh ... and while we're at it. Yet another Kerry lie. This one is about that continuing brouhaha over Kerry's statement that he met with foreign leaders who told him that they wanted him to beat Bush. Kerry's statement was recorded --- yes, recorded --- by a Boston Globe reporter handling pool coverage. Well ... this is turning into a problem for Kerry for two reasons. First, nobody seems to remember when he has met with any foreign leaders. Second, he refuses to share with us the names of these foreign leaders he's been talking too.

Now it seems that sKerry wants to change his story. At a recent meeting with campaign donors sKerry was challenged about his statement that he had met with these mysterious foreign leaders. Kerry's respose? "I never said that. What I said was that I have heard from people who are leaders elsewhere in the world who don't appreciate the Bush administration approach and would love to see a change in the leadership of the United States."

Seems like Mr. sKerry has a problem! Here's this tape recording where sKerry clearly says "met," and there's sKerry saying "I never said that!"

This all goes to prove my longstanding point

Anyone who wants to be President of the USA .....

.... is unfit for the job

I'm thinking of setting up a Vick For President of the USA in 2004 website (and mass mailing the hell out of it ah ha ha ha ha Presidential Spam)

Short Platform -
Abolish income tax as we know it and replace with National Sales Tax
Abolish Welfare and replace with education programs
Encourage Iraq to sell the USA oil under market prices (short term solution)
Encourage production of energy efficient means of transportation
Crack down on Internet Porn (I need to line my pockets somehow)
Reduce Federal Government and Government Spending (easy once National Sales Tax is invoked)
Mandatory Balanced Budget (see above - tie to National Sales Tax rate)

Some of what he says does make some sense ... the problem is, if he decides to run, he is automatically delcaring his OWN incompetence to have the job, and you are therefore back at square one.

That Kerry misquote is going to be used over and over again to bash him.

He never said foreign leaders, apparently the 'newspaper' who dug up his voting record didn't bother to dig up the actual Boston Globe quote. He said 'more leaders'.

Ah well. :P

You see OReilly get his ass handed to him the other day when he interviewed Blix? First time I have seen OReilly shut the fuck down on live TV, he was almost speechless for a second. You could actually see the "oh fuck" on his face. Make that the second time, Matt Hale worked him over pretty well.

I am with you Colin. I went from being a Bush supporter to someone who is voting for him because he is the lesser of 2 evils. If we was no war going on, I would not give a hoot.

All three. Judicial, legislative, and executive. Congress and FCC is obvious. Unless a landslide decision, an executive signature is required on decisions by Congress and there have been cases brought to the Supreme Court re: the FCC.

And yes, Republican presidents choose conservative judges and Democratic presidents choose liberal ones and we the people choose both Republican and Democratic presidents depending on our collective moods.

Now if we could only get some people in office that actually supported the whole damn thing.

Not just the parts they like.

I do want to say thanks to Colin, PD, Torone, MikeAI, Alex, Serge, Carrie, Labret, Meni, Peaches, and everyone else I have ever been on the opposite side of a political discussion with.

If nothing else it made me dig deeper into the issues and think harder about them than I normally would.
