If your Dad was a terrorist do you really think he wouldnt find the Athens Olympics the most appealing target in the next 12 months?

Although after the Spanish election I bet some terrorists would prefer to blow up a few American trains on the eve of Bushes re-election (not that I think Americans would wimp out like traitor dogs as the Spanish have done)

I do not think they will need too...

Part of the terror is that we should know it is there, but should not know when it will happen. This Olympics will probably have so much security that every TV reporter will remind the viewers about it atleast once every hour... should give us enough fear and headlines, so the terrorists will not need to blow anything up...

I would be more concerned with just before the Olympics - any terror event in the europe doing that time will remind us that the donkey riding terrorist *might* hit Greece during the Olympics...

Meni, your dad is not up on history.

Terrorists have attack the Olympic games before. It was in Germany and they attacked the athletes from Israel.

Therefore history shows that arab terrorists will attack Olympic games not based on who is hosting, but the actual athletes participating. With US, UK, Aussie, Spanish, and other Olympic teams playing at the games it is still a large target.

Also note, terrorists are the lowest of the low - they kill innocent women, children - they do not follow any rules at all. So any and every target is open.

I was about to post the same thing Mike - historically, terrorists have proven that they couldn't give 2 shits about the host country when it comes to acting against the Olympics - sad, but true.... And somehow I just don't think any of the bomb-wearing Islamic fundamentalist types will even say "Oh wait a minute, Ibn-Al-Farazif, we can't attack Greece!"

I get the feeling they don't like ANYONE...

Why don't you go back to the "first use of WMD" when the British gave blankets infected with small pox to indians attacking the fort ?

Or even Christopher Columbus? What about the rest of the Spanish explorers?

I bet we could come up with other examples older then this. The Romans were not to nice to Carthage or any other enemy.

The Greeks were just as bad.

We can also look at what the Moors and Muslims did back during the day.

It is difficult to justify the fire bombing of Dresdin. It was all out war, a World War - the leaders had to make the decisions back them.

We are dealing with a modern war now.... It would be easy to wipe out our enemies like the Romans used to do. This is the only proven way to keep people from coming back and causing trouble. Fortunately for our enemies these tactics are now frowned upon, and would violate OUR sensibilities.

But if there was ever a major strike on the US which involved WMD, and tend of thousands of deaths - I could see the US lashing out like the Romans did with Carthage.

Actually what is more to the point is the predictablility of you right wing ramblings and ravings from behind the compound wall. IMHO that is bordering on the criminal. Everyone thought Saddam had WMD.... All European leaders, their intelligence services, the UN, Hans Blitz, etc...

Even Saddam thought he had WMD ( and he could very well had, and its in Syria now)

We know for a fact Iraq had missles that were violating UN resolutions - he fired them off during the war!

As far as talking about things I am not knowedgable about you forget I have my undergraduate degree in International Studies. My major professor who oversaw the program and my thesis was one of the top in the State Department for years. He personally oversaw and negotiated the treaty between the Turks and Greeks over Cyprus.

Foreign policy is a passion for me. I continue reading and studying both current events and historical events.

As far as "you guys" being dangerous, I am not sure what you mean. Unlike you I have never consulted or worked with a President or Sec of State. No one calls me and asks my opinion. However, I think my opinion and view are pretty well represented in the Bush administration.

The ass kicking thing.... that is absurd. The US military could take on the next 2 military powers below us ( China? Russia? India?) at the same time and destroy them in a non-nuclear war. Just because we can does not mean we want to. The United States has other ways to influence the world.... our businesses and pop culture are infiltrating everywhere.

I will put my knowledge on foreign policy, history, economics, political science against yours anyday. Again, I think even PD and other liberals would say I am informed - they may not like my OPINIONS and STANCES on certain issues, but they would not say I was "uninformed".

That is so presumptive. Surely you saw Colin Powell's performance at the UN. I thought the highlight of US bullshit was when they tried to say a three foot drone was a wmd because it could spread biological weapons. There was no wmd just smoke and mirrors. I think Meni is just frustrated by the Howard Stern stuff.... he is a devoted fan.

I still think he is wrong about Bush trying to censor Stern though. Bush lives in a kind of bubble, he is a retard when it comes to popular culture. I doubt he could pick Stern out of a lineup.

Bush gets serious reports on the war on terror, iraq, nuclear proliferation, the economy these are the issues that Bush is focused on. Imagine the amount of information he must see that we will never know about. To think he is worried about a radio DJ.... it is absurd.

I think the same goes with gay marriages. If some activist judges, and kooky mayors would not have made it an issue by shoving it into peoples faces, Bush would not have done anything. Once they pushed the issue they forced Bush's hand. You could see that he was not gung ho about the Marriage Amendment... We have brave men commited to combat oveseas, we have terrorist always working and attacking our interests and our allies.... these are the things that Bush is concerned with.

The problem I see here, Mike, is that J'sCORNHOLE just loves - I mean LOVES to argue back and forth about the SEMANTICS and CONTEXT in which words are used on a webmaster board.

Everything is relatively. Greece didn't send troops, but let USA to use their air base in Creta island (Souda city). It's the only american base left in mediterranean and for sure the largest. It was one of the first things the american govt wanted to secure before declaring the war.


Back to the question:

Will arab terrorists hit Greece during the Olympics?

Terrorists do not have the same reasoning with us, I doubt they have any, thus I don't believe what Greece did or not is an important factor for them to consider. Definitely an attack during the Olympic Games would spread world panic like nothing else. On the other hand it's gonna be very risky. Personally I don't think Al Queda or another relative group will take such risk. This shitheads don't risk their position, that's why fighting this level of terrorist is like shooting in the air.

My guess is if they're going to hit Athens it will be done before the Olympic Games (as already said here) or they'll launch an attack in another european city or US state, where the security levels will be much lower, during this event.
