In its report on Saddam's capture, Newsweek said that the former Iraqi leader identified himself as he surrendered with no resistance. "Don't shoot," Saddam said, according to a military source quoted by Newsweek. "I am Saddam Hussein, the president of the Republic of Iraq."
There you have it, straight from the source: There are no WMD in Iraq, and the Americans have reinstituted slavery after 150 year moratorium on the practice.

Oh, there are a lot of reasons that Ashcroft is Attorney General; he isn't there "just" because of porn. He served 8 years as the AG of Missouri before becoming a Senator, so he the background for the job. He is a very "law and order" kind of guy.
That being said ... giving Ashcroft the job as AG was part of the plunder delivered to the Robertson/Falwell crowd for their help in the election. (I realize that some people around here don't know that kind of trading happens for jobs like AG, Vice President, etc., but it's true). First of all, his almost Quixote-ish defense all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court of some blatantly flawed abortion laws endeared him to that crowd. Ashcroft had been floating some trial ballons about a run himself, and he was able to generate quite a lot of support from that wing of the party.

"Negotiating" with terrorists is a useless activity. That's what the democrats want us to do. If we are just nice to them they will be nice to us and we'll all sit around and sing kumbaya while smoking the peace pipe. Yeah right, the only thing these people understand is violence and how to use it. By taking away their money and their sponsors (Saddam) the US is moving forward in stopping them. Will they ever give up? Probably not. But they are severely crippled at this point.
This is something I wrote quickly last night. This would be a typical Democrat response to anything GW did.

It has been found to be 100% effective in early trials with few side effects other than that patients suddenly lose the ability to pronounce words correctly.
Democrat Presidential hopeful Howard Dean angrily declared that George Bush had no business doing cancer research and that the cancer patients should have solved their own problems. Dean, visibly flustered, stated, "How dare he cure cancer on his own without building a coalition with our allies." He further added that if we would have just been nice to cancer it would have gone away on its' own.
French, German, and Russian leaders immediately demanded that they be given royalties for the discovery. We vehemently opposed this cancer research because we make a lot of money off of cancer. With cancer gone we have lost a major source of revenue. Sure it was deadly but we made a lot of money off of it dammit.

In further developments, White House Spokeman Scott McClellan clarified the earlier announcement about a Bush Cancer Cure.
"Yes," McClellan said, "it is true that the President used his spare time to develop a cancer cure. However, when we began negiotiations with Haliburton (and, to ensure competitive bidding, Brown & Root) for distribution of the product, it was discovered that the formula had been stolen by Iraqi agents and is now stored in the same secret location where the rascally Iraqi's are keeping their Weapons of Mass Destruction."

Taking my comment and extending it to "praise for Bush" is a stretch.
I was watching the news yesterday and they were interviewing Dean about his thoughts on Saddam's capture etc.... and he stated something to the effect of "It is a big victory for the Bush Administration as well as the country and Bush deserves to celebrate"... (that is not a direct quote, I am going from memory)
Nothing in there about what he would have done differently etc... actually it was the most presidential I have heard on of the dem candidates be yet....
