When we started, there were no such things as "Ads" or anything commercial. We had to make money to pay our bandwidth by doing mail order VHS video sales! No billing companies or even merchant account scripts either. We had Visa/MC through our BBS but had to run the number manually when they came it. Fuck, I am old!

Hell, I haven't even been around for five years yet - why do you think I listen to you guys? To learn!

When I first got online, there were no ads, then "Oh, crap, we have to pay for shit" happened - and then: the first banner ads and text links for swapping. Amazon ran in the red for years because no one wanted to send their card info across the lines. Back then, I was in finance, so I watched it up close and personal when the market would pull an 80-A - Pets.com anyone?
