It would appear that they have decided to scuttle their online ship and try to make money outside of the porn world. I think they will discover the same things that Playboy discovered: it's expensive, it sucks, and it doesn't work.

“We don’t mind P2P, that’s absolutely okay,” he said.

The old affiliate-driven pay-site approach is a “stupid business model” according to Milton. And tube sites only get small ad dollars from porn-friendly companies like dating sites. Instead, Private is about to sign on with a major Italian ad agency in order to attract luxury products and brand advertising."

Private’s idea works like the Groupon voucher program whereby the Italian agency — that’s paid by luxury brands in product instead of cash — would act as the filter offering Private the products for a discount. Private would then advertise the high-end products without any direct connection to the manufacturers and make money only on sales.

“We will be extremely happy the more people are pirating our content and the more they look at it,” Milton said .

In the video Milton says that his company will focus more on selling the ‘private lifestyle’ which includes luxurious vacations with an adult theme, and toys and tools that may come in handy while reenacting pirated videos.

and the corker

With slow progress on human cloning and the 3D-printer, Milton’s bet on selling the sex ‘experience’ rather than videos seems to be a safe one for now.

I remember a fat bastard saying just this over 2 years on the BBC.

smacks of desperation. I have been following his latest online site with interest. It is pretty good design, really poor execution and just not in touch with adult online. I think they still have their feet planted firmly in 1979

Was I the only one that lived through the first round of completely free web-content, supported entirely by ads?

I mean, I am kinda starting to feel like no one else experienced the dot-bomb.

Despite being sour on traditional pay site models, Private's hotel idea provides a twist. The company will allow guests to stay for free if they allow their sex acts to be streamed, thus giving Private another revenue source by charging users to watch the live sex.
:headwall::headwall::headwall:

That is an idea I talked to Jen and several other people a long ways back (at least 5 years ago). My version of it was a chain of US Motels.. XXXMotels where you stayed for free after agreeing to let your stay be broadcast.

Guess I should have patented it or something

I go back even farther than that. When I was renting adult VHS tapes in 1985, and buying them for as low as $3 each. (It cost about $.79 wholesale for a blank tape, and another 25-30 cents for label and box...)

Does anyone actually believe that content will "hold value," when the delivery/distribution cost is a fraction of a penny? Please.

You can talk about it all you want, scream about it, sue about it, but in the end, even the producers will give their own content away for pennies.

Today, I buy bulk DVDs, individually packaged for retail sale, delivered to my door, physically, for $1 or less a piece. Your belief in "unique" content is just that, a belief. The value "online," is the expanded personality, the "girlfriend maybe" experience. That "expanded fleshiness" to the content.
Unless you give a "value added" experience, you have nothing more than just another clip of porn video.

(I think I said that 11 years ago.......Yes, I'm sure of it, and based our business model on it)

Re: Id hate to be a gamelink affiliate right now

"content" holds value because not everyone does it, or at least, not everyone does it well. For all the discussion of sexting and all that crap, the number of people showing their own porn movies to friends is pretty small. If you want to see porn, you still need "pro-porn", even if it's Carol Cox "amateur", which is still 1000 time more pro than most of it.

The value added isn't just what we add to it, it is what the end consumer adds to it themselves. No matter how hard we try to aim for their desires, each is unique and has his own turn ons and such.

Distribution in the end isn't the issue - it's the content. The current "pirate everything" mentality is a temporary state of affairs, as it is not tolerable by governments or industry. We get to tag along as they try to find ways to make piracy less appealing, which makes paying for stuff the real alternative again. For the moment, it sucks, but the shift is on.

Thing is though, somewhere someway somehow someone has to actually sell something. And if you keep giving away the things that you advertise to sell, you create your own bubble.

Supported by Ads?? WOW Liz, you are such a newbie!! ;)

When we started, there were no such things as "Ads" or anything commercial. We had to make money to pay our bandwidth by doing mail order VHS video sales! No billing companies or even merchant account scripts either. We had Visa/MC through our BBS but had to run the number manually when they came it. Fuck, I am old!

Danny, I've always admitted I'm a newbie :)

Hell, I haven't even been around for five years yet - why do you think I listen to you guys? To learn!

When I first got online, there were no ads, then "Oh, crap, we have to pay for shit" happened - and then: the first banner ads and text links for swapping. Amazon ran in the red for years because no one wanted to send their card info across the lines. Back then, I was in finance, so I watched it up close and personal when the market would pull an 80-A - Pets.com anyone?

Yes, and now you aren't allowed to keep them. Not allowed to retain the customer's card number.
Let's not forget, any of these pages of rules.......any violations, can result in a fine of "up to $500,000.00 per incident."

Cool, but do they do adult?
The rates aren't bad for an adult merchant. I still get better with my regular merchant account, but that would be good for the more "risky" ones.
