I dont think they need to have set foot in Africa to be called African Americans because in that case the term is being applied to anyone that can trace their heritage back to Africa. My problem is with tacking American on the end even though they may not live in America. To me a black man is a black man but the politically correct in this country call a black man that lives in England and has never set foot in America, an African American. D'oh!

I agree and as a Canadian I find it very offensive, arrogant and useless. I don't go around identifying myself as a Scottish Canadian. In fact I don't feel a need to id myself at all. Just look at me. I am blond. I have blue eyes. Nuff said. Unless you are blind as a bat, then it should be obvious what my roots are.
The other interesting thing is that when a black man or woman has a baby with a white man or woman, the kid becomes an African American. Go figure. They lose their European heritage in a blink of a pc eye.
I gotta say "North Americans" are the most sensitive prissy people on the planet when it comes to race and nationality. No one else in the world cares.
