The change in power has more to do with the government continuing to blame ETA for the attacks, even after arresting 3 Moroccans, finding verses of the Koran, being given a tape by Al Queda saying they did it and ETA announcing they didn't.

The state owned media stations were still blaming ETA yesterday, it's just pathetic.

Before Thursday, the Popular Party had been favored to win by a comfortable margin

Before this bombing, even though a majority of Spaniards were against sending troops into Iraq, the PP would have won the election but not comfortably, they would have had to be in a coalition, probably with the basque nationalist, like they did 8 years ago.

But because they lied, then sent riot police out after people demonstrating against them for lying, it sort of pissed the people off.

That and the fact that the out going president was not running again and the man who replaced him as leader of the PP is not that known, and has the charisma of a wet fart probably didn't help matters either
