Bush said Iraq was developing nuclear, chemical and biological weapons, but U.S. forces have not found stockpiled weapons of mass destruction. Bush said Iraq supported al-Qaida’s designs against the United States, but the Sept. 11 commission found no active collaboration. |

$200 billion is cheap, if that ensures that the petro-dollar stays for a few more decades - thats like having a unlimited money printing machine... if it had been petro-euros today, then the US would have been in the gutter for decades - a mess, which no republican or democratic president could fix.
Now could the war have been fought cheaper - YES, it could... however the public can not stand casualties, and western politicians do not try to have other leaders killed in secret... h34r:

Wars are never simple. Rolo is right 200billion is CHEAP ( when compaired to GNP of US) to secure oil. Throw in a chance to have a free Iraq, with open markets, free trade - think how much crap we can sell them!! McDonalds, Wendys, Kinkos, Dell, Microsoft, Pepsi, directTV, GM, etc... all waiting to get in. Imagine if this freedom expands from IRaq to the rest of the middle east the next 50 years.... |

Mike, do you get your knowledge of history from Our Weekly Reader?
So ... we invaded Iraq to exploit their natural resources and provide markets for our goods and services? Didn't you forget to add in employment opportunities for young men (of the proper class and breeding, of course - the rest can serve in the army of occupation)? I seem to have heard that idea before ... what was it called? Colonial-something, I believe. Got an example in the last 60 years where that kind of thing has worked, Mikey? BTW ... $200,000,000 dollars for the war. According to testimony before Congress two weeks ago, what we spend on Iraq in a DAY is about the same as what we've spent on securing our ports SINCE 9/11. Of course, I'm sure that the increased costs to corporate contribut, er, vital business interests that an appropriate container security system ($<50 a container shipment) has NOTHING to do with it ... any more than the effect of working with the French and Russians on economic and debt issues would have had on Haliburton (et al.)'s bottom line, er, vital issues of national soverignty.

I'd mention things about Alaskan pipelines, other US oil reserves and resources, and alternates like ethenol, electomagnetics and air compression power ... but, few would understand what they have to do with the topic, so I won't bother.
