Not what I would call mainstream. Interviews don't qualify....tittilating movies don't qualify.... Fringy maybe. Mainstream.....hmmmmm

Let me put it this way. Before I was in the porn racket, I would never have said this girl was anything but a porn queen. Mainstream is a term used only by porn people.

I can see that.

She may be a porn queen - I'm ok with that.

But she's the most recognisable porn queen in non-adult media since Little Miss Underage, bar none.

I've never seen any other porn personality get as much attention in m/s ad campaigns, movies, or press. Sure, it's all due to porn, but that's kinda an interesting tell in and of itself, I think.

I'm not saying she is mainstream - I'm saying that she's had more wide-spread (heh, pun not actually intended) exposure in non-porn media than any starlet I can think of. And yes, I include Jenna Jameson and Stormy here.

Fair enough, but how does this qualify her as a keynote speaker? Attention in the straight world, other than drive some curious traffic, is not exactly something to aspire to.
We work in a "entrance at the rear" (no pun intended) kind of business. Murky is what we strive for. I am not quit sure why so many porn guys seem to need validation from the square world. And that would be the only reason to make her a keynote speaker and even that is a stretch. Sure I would like to hear her story but more out of curiosity if I happened to be at the show. It wouldn't attract me. She is surfer bait as far as I can see.

I think the pendulum is swinging (HA! There I go again!) away from it being a "separate entrance for the filthy smut folk. " And I don't think it's a bad thing. I've mentioned before that the sexual revolution has made a lot of things come out of the shadows - as has the internet. While I don't think we'll ever be a topic that dads 'n grads bond over a beer on, I do think that the stigma of being in touch with one's sexuality is going away.

The part for me that makes this make sense is that she is an intelligent woman in this business (if a bit pretentious in her "I'm 21 and know everything and am VERY SMART LOOK AT ME" kinda way), on a side we don't usually look at, with avenues open to her that have been unexplored.

It feels like a way to break out of our shuttered world with blinders - and I think we must be honest, that as an industry, we very much are that way. We have a corner, and we like to stay there. Perhaps the shake up is a way to show us that won't work anymore. Perhaps because she isn't what we've looked to in the past as a key note is precisely what will make her valuable.

The very acceptance that you are talking about is what devalues our product. As far as the sexual revolution goes, which sexual revolution is that? I am tired of living through revolutions. It seems every generation thinks it is revolutionary and I don't really see one at the moment.

I'm actually talking about the sexual revolution as it is recognised - from the late 60s/ early 70s.

The ripple effect is still being felt, is all I was getting at - not that there is anything fresh in that realm.

actually we are more puritan now than we were then. Mainstream movies that were made then could never be made now.
