He owes a lot of people a lot of money/content. From what I understand there was a scramble for 2257 information from him a few years back and rumors that he was abusive to his models.
As Dragon King said it was some high end content early on. Jace is probably the only one I know of that had direct experience with him except one of the old BellSouth.net guys who used to run his website. I havent heard from Dereck in a long time since he sold the domain afterdark.com. He was one of the original engineers at mindspring too so he probably has some great stories to tell.
