I would equate that more with success rather than newbieism.

If you have been doing this (or trying to do this shit) for 5 or 6 years and are not making it you are not a newbie. You are not successful but you are not a newbie. Some might consider you to be a failure perhaps but not a newbie.

The most successful newbie in history has got to be JK Rowley. Not one bling loudmouthed motherfucker that has ever posted on any adult board or run any adult business could touch dat. I still say its the money. Six years of failure, is still newbi-ism IMHO
