POTD is a great tool I havent used in years.
Take it one step further with a short video of the day with kind oa diary entry I think think it would do excellent.

Jace, i already offer RSS Feeds with FLV little videos consistently incorporated in each post:

It would not be a problem at all for me to shoot enough for a VOTD. I shall understand better the kind of content to shoot, for a VOTD, but i'm definetely going to think about it.
