I've grilled steelhead fillets on a Webber kettle. A little mesquite mixed in with the charcoal. Basted several times during cooking with mix of melted butter, lemon juice and fresh pressed garlic. Don't overcook. Like eating candy.

Ever had smoked fish like smoked salmon?
Personally I think fish is best either grilled or raw, yeah sushi. Now if by barbecuing you mean with a dry rub or barbecue sauce, then I'd say I've never tried it, but grilled with some smoking, like Toby suggested is awesome.

When my brother and son went salmon fishing in Alaska, they had half their catch smoked. There's also a little restaurant on the river a town north of me that has THE best smoked rainbow trout. BYOB. And they might have to use a Cool Whip tub if you need your booze chilled ![]() Quite honestly, it's hard to find food I don't like. It's a curse. |

I live in salmon country and we cook it over alder planks, like the west coast indians have done forever. There is no better fish in the world. I like sockeye. If you can't get green alder, try cedar planks.

I bbq fish all the time
Dolphin, swordfish, trout, shark, salmon, tuna, what ever i can find locally you can throw on the grill some of the lighter fish like trout and catfish you may need to cook over aluminum foil as they flake up and break apart on the grill but the more solid fish you can throw right on the grill also smoked Kingfish or any other kind of macrel is awesome makes great fish dip |

Smoked fish, especially salmon, i'm ok with.
But when I think BBQ, I think rubbed meat then soaked in sauce....dont like it dry. Somehow that just doesn't sound good to me with fish. |

It would really depend on what your definition of barbecue is then. Most of us consider 'BBQ' to be pork, chicken or beef that has been marinated or rubbed with seasonings and then slow cooked, usually over wood, or smoked, and then often served with bbq sauce. However, to me, the word 'barbecue' means to cook outdoors on a grill of some kind, in which case, barbecuing fish is one of the best, if not the best, ways of cooking it.
