How NOT to market with social networking

People kept telling me to get onto myspace and more recently to get a blog. But I can't see a point to it beyond a bit of free publicity/seo.

Am I missing the boat by not exploiting these sites? Can you get a decent Google influencing backward link to your real sites from myspace?

MySpace is very specific in their TOS that you can't use adult content on the pages nor link to adult websites, so anyone that is doing it is unethical IMO.

I think it sucks when every time I check my MySpace page I have a bunch of messages and most of them are people with MySpace pages spamming their shit.

Every time a good thing comes along, asswipes find a way to fuck it up.

If I felt like being vindictive, I could write a letter to MySpace as a concerned father and give them a list of pages that were directly or indirectly promoting adult content and I guarantee you, they'd all be shut down.

There was a story on local news here. "Don't recall what station"

It basicly covered how easy it has become for strangers to obtain personal information of people on myspace.
Information like: Name, Bithdate, Weight, Height, State, City, Town, all the way down to the school some myspace profiles contain.

Now add there hobbies: Music, Dance, Sports, Arts & crafts.
Now the stranger has something to relate with the myspace profile.

This in my opinion is NOT GOOD
