May I suggest http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/index.htm
Will help you immensely. it's only $4.95/month or $26 for a year and worth it if it helps you make a good decisioon on just this hiugh cost purchase alone.

I got a 42" plasma a while back. Stupidly, I went with LG. The damn thing kept going to shit on me and having to be replaced. I eventually got sick of taking it in and got a 56" DLP instead. It was cheaper too. DLP is definitely better than plasma, IMHO.

I get confused over which one( plasma, LCD, DLP, HD) is best for a really dark room, a really light room and everything in the middle. I have been told Santa will be bringing one to me for Christmas this year. I guess "Santa" got tired of looking at orange people. I only have orange people on sports channels. And it'll hang on the wall... of this I am afraid.
I have no idea what kind to get... but hubby says it will be a BIG one. I guess everything needs to be BIG in his eyes. LBBV also suggested the DLP to me and I am leaning that way, only purchased at a local store so I have someone I can walk up to and bitch at. |

If space isn't a concern and price is, DLP is definitely the way to go. You can get huge screen sizes much cheaper than the flat panels.
For the flat panels, plasma is going to give you the most natural colors and best all around picture. The main downside is cost. You should also be aware they have potential for burn in (be careful if you play games on them). And they're prone to reflections, so you want control of the lighting in the area where you're putting it. LCD is typically cheaper and has no issues with burn in. But the colors aren't quite as natural and you should pay attention to the speed if you like to watch sports or play games. Really cheap units will have issues with fast motion. My option is none of the above, I have DLP projector and 110" screen...which I still need to assemble...heh. |
