War porn - Fucked up or not?

I suppose I see this from two different perspectives...

First, I kind of like the idea of regular folks (i.e. non-veterans, non-journalists, non-natives to a war zone) seeing the horrors of war. People have too long labored under the delusion that war is somehow glorious or romantic. The god-awful things we see on television, though playing to our morbid curiosities, help us realize that there really is no glamour in killing or being killed, especially when the conflict in question may or may not be justified. We won't get into that, however.

On the other hand, I don't particularly like the idea of profiteering from suffereing either, which is exactly what everyone from major news outlets to penny-ante websites have been doing. If anything, I find it as repulsive and horrifying as the images of beheadings and charred bodies themselves.

I agree with your points Scott, but coming from a guy that points a gun at me on his website, it does seem a bit disingenuous.

WTF? This is case in point of the psychotic delusional mentality that permeates not only the U.S. but the Muslim and Hindu and mainland Chinese.

It's okay to show the most brutal shit and encourage war and beating women and killing your girl children but show some tits and it's like a nightmare.

In this case it's dead enemies. The news is always showing dead friends. Now when we wanna see the dead enemy it's obscene? Florida is one fucked up state. Their cops are as dirty as you can get, their politicians dirtier.

I remember as a kid, there was a show called World At War that showed endless clips of concentration camp murders and people being steam shovelled into mass graves. They would run this tv show every fucking night and we kids were mortified!

Now they call it the History Channel.

There're some sick fucks out here and too bad we voted for them.
