Naw man... Ive never said I was an internet player. I made a considerable amount of money in the IT field during the dotcom ramp up.
I had 2 hobbies during that time. Forensic data recovery which starts at $300 an hour and then the adult web on the side. The BBS ended up morphing into a 5 letter domain name.

For me IT was a lot more profitable. Biggest mistake I ever made was having a hard time accepting people would pay for what several of us were extracting for shits and grins out of the newsgroups.

Homegrown BBS and Wild Rose Net were the big shits of the day making money on dialup and translating it to the web. As far as I know they have both kept on keeping on.

Personally I only do this for money. For shits and giggles, I travel. If you stay focussed on the profit, fun happens. This is a great business and is very profitable. I have been doing it longer than most here and have been through the web board mill as you know. I have to say, the topic of this thread is right on the money. Business happens between friends. The less you pitch it, the more actually happens. If I have to hear Joe Shoe pitch it one more time, you can gag me with a spoon. This place just aint a lot of fun anymore and you cant force folks to have fun. And btw, just to let you know and trust me there is no rancour intended, just passing it on to you, this board is down an awful lot and many times loads really slowly. I have no idea why and I only say this with the best of intentions so you can look into it.

really? I actually haven't had any trouble since they switched it all over to NatNet, in fact the load times have been around twice as fast for me

Thats a good question for LBBV. I know someone is in the data center 24/7.
You open a ticket they have fixed the problem and logged it before you can refresh the screen.

Oprano and FFC both are hosted with NatNet.

I do have monitoring on all of our servers from points across the U.S. and a couple on foreign soil as well. If something doesn't respond as expected, I get an alert, the monitors look at least once every 5 minutes.

I've yet to have anything we have hosted at Natnet fire a single alarm. And I would get one even if the response time was too slow. So not only has it been up, it's been up and moving fast.

I've seen Oprano hiccup a few times, but when I've looked as best I can from the outside looking in, it doesn't appear to be the network. It acts more like it's at the application level. I would speculate that there's more than one database application on the server and when Oprano is slow the database is getting thrashed pretty good.

This is NOT something I would fault Natnet or any other host for, application issues are the responsibility of the content provider.
