I have tried the adware and spybot, neither will rid my machine of home search assistant. I found a site with steps to get rid of it but its beyond my abilities, hehe go figure.
Everything that I have tried thats free doesnt seem to work. Oh if I could get my hands on the fucker that created this spyware/virus.

Install FireFox/Opera/Whatever else, if you dont already have one installed, then use that instead - so the IE pops wont mess with shit.

Then if the above (recommended) anti-adware products dont help, download this:

HiJackThis will let you manually remove specific files, just make sure you know wtf you're doing or you'll end up removing the wrong file.

I don't have firefox, but I will download it. As for hijackthis, I already have, but cant understand what I'm supposed to delete, whats safe whats bad etc...

There is a forum that I can signup for and I can post a printout of the results from hijackthis but havent gotten that far yet.

Usually, when you find .exe's in HiJackThis that you have no idea what it is, you can search google for the file. 99.9% of the time, you'll find the file, and it'll either say safe, or adware.
