My husband mentioned to a coworker that his wife built websites. The coworker asked him what program I used to build the sites. My husband shook his head and said "she doesn't use a program, she hand codes."
The man's eyes actually grew large and his mouth opened. "She does it...by...hand?" (Hushed, reverent tone.) Now, as silly as I thought that whole exchange was, hearing the story was one of the few times I've ever felt like a "webmaster" with the "master" part of the word in place. Up until then it was "I build websites. So? Everybody I know builds websites. My children build websites. Not a really impressive endeavor 'round my house." I forget what show I watched recently that had the webmaster of a porn site who lived in his mother's basement and collected Star Wars figures. I got an extreme chuckle out of it, though. I once knew a porn webmaster who did the exact same thing. Everybody with an internet connection is a "webmaster" now. The ISPs hand out personal space and up goes pics of the vacation and the grandkids. |
