Aren't all creative people a little off their tree?
I know my youngest son is ready to become an adult webmaster when he turns 18...his imaginary friend's name is Hot Pants...

Oy! Just tell teacher he's a bit promiscuous for his age.

Yeah, that will go over well!

I live in a predominantly mormon neighborhood...it would go over very well...in fact, so well, I could come home to see burning effigies in my likeness

Lance...he most likely has age appropriate comments that will stay age appropriate right up until some adult freaks out and either makes him feel ashamed and guilty or hands him a nice weapon to use against adults. If he discovers that saying words like "boobies" freaks out his teacher...she bettle settle in to be freaked out a lot.

When a sixth grade daughter mentioned having a boyfriend, I did the silent, blank faced *thud,* then asked in a casual voice "what does that mean in the sixth grade?" She shrugged and said "nothing, really." It was merely immitative behavior. Kids would make a declaration "so-and-so is my boyfriend/girlfriend" and that was that. It didn't change their behavior in the slightest. They didn't spend more time together or do any of the things older children would have done. "Ah," I said to my child. "OK." And that was that.

I had an absolute catfight with another parent once who told me what she'd heard during one of her middle school daughter's phone calls. I said "back up a minute...you *listened in* on one of her phone calls?!?!?!?" (That point was lost on her, so we moved on.) I tried to explain that at that age, kids talked dirty on the phone. The phone made them safe. (I'd gotten advice from my own middle school aged children by asking them about phone call content, discovering that it was quite frequently blue, and it - again - did not change a thing about the way they treated each other in person.) She had violated trust and royally overreacted.

My youngest got an email into the family account when we first got the internet that had a subject line that dropped my jaw. She said "oh, he just does that in the subject line, he thinks it's funny, the rest of the email isn't like that." I said "you most definitely need your *own* email account" and off we went to hotmail, with instructions on internet safety. I could have royally overreacted and forbidden her computer usage...but then I never would have had the pleasure of watching her glued to a hockey game because she'd met a nice Canadian kid in a teen chat room. It was a Candian team versus an American team...and they had a playful "I'll bet my country can kick your country's butt!!" thing going on. She'd never watched hockey before this.

yeah
he loves to see me howl with laughter when he talks about finding me a new girlfriend with big boobies...my older son gets a kick out of it too...I just have to explain to them what is funny at home might not be as funny in school.

I did get a kick out of the teacher calling me...the teacher loves him because he just says what's on his mind and doesn't care what anyone thinks. He is also amazed at my son's creativity...when he plays with Hot Pants (try typing that without giggling, I dare ya), he has amazingly detailed adventures and I'd never want to curb his creativity.

We had to have the "language" talk with our kids. We never censored their language at home, but told them you didn't speak like that out in public because it was wrong to "gratuitously offend people." (If you wanted the privilege of using four letter words in my house you had to understand the five syllable ones. Rules of the game.) My kids would speak to their friends the way they always did on the way to school...and inevitably get "shushed!!" with the head gesture toward their father. One of my kids would shrug and begin their favorite "freak out their friends" game with a "hey, Dad? Fuck you" to which my husband would mildly reply "fuck you, too." (We're lucky we didn't put a few kids in the hospital with that one.)

A teacher actually *repainted* one of my at the time second grade daughter's art project because she didn't want the penguin to have pink (could have been purple, don't remember) polka dots. Well, we sat the nearly hysterical child down and got the directions for the project - "real or imaginary animal." Allrighteeethen. My husband went in to visit the principal and his opening salvo was "first off...you're so lucky my wife isn't here." Not big on curbing creativity around here, either. If the directions had been "real life animal," then I could see telling *the child* to repaint the project, but that hadn't been the instructions. And the *teacher* repainting it?!?!?!? Oh, I so don't think so....
