Although I did not mean to make light of the horrendous situation down in Nola,
I said in an earlier thread , that It should no way be compared to the tsunami. and even though the immiediate death toll was not the same. I do now retract that thought, This is a true night mare, as the city looks to be a total loss, and the after effects will be lingering on forever. I saw now that gators are even attacking cars with people in them, and the Snakes are out of control. I truely hope that these people in Nola will be able to get their life back as reasonably fast as possible, and I do hope that the suffering they are having will be as little as possible at this point. |

Don't forget the sharks
http://www.heraldsun.news.com.au/com...55E663,00.html The raging storm dragged a huge New Orleans casino about 100m across a street and set it down in a parking lot, and there were reports of sharks cruising the city's flooded streets.

Joe, I was born down there (Northern portion). I also lived in Baton Rouge.
I think the news did a poor job of explaining what "would" "could" happen. I think that people don't exactly realize what is happening. The news left this expectation of the French Quarter being submerged. When that did not pan out, the news reported the city was ok and the general public went with it. Thing is, I knew (as did my family) that the water was still rising. Hell, last time I was there a storm hit and Billy and I were running through 8 inches of water to get to a bar. The place does not drain water well. Unless you have spent time down there, it would be difficult not to believe the news... Mike, Grimm and Billy would far surpass me in the understanding of it all, but that is my two cents. I think that as the weeks unfold, people will realize how bad things are, and how bad they are going to be. New Orleans is a great city. I hope for the best. Good news about Billy.

We can say what we want about the news, in many cases it is our only outlet. Living there it was drilled into your head. I think NO officials knew early on what was happening, even when Fox News reported NO had been spared. I think they tried not to cause chaos. However, when they started evacuating the Superdome even when the news was reporting the Quarters missed the floods, it was obvious they were aware the water was rising. In my opinion of course.
