Then let's just give them back California - they're taking it anyway... Try living in an area where illegals refuse to learn English, but their numbers are increasing to the point where the locals who live here are being forced to learn Spanish just to get a job and see how you like it. I'm seriously ready to leave the state. It's THAT bad.

I know a lot of LEGAL immigrants from Mexico who feel the same way - they are Americans, 1st - 2nd - 3rd generation some of them, and they are getting frustrated with the masses of illegals taking over our valley, trashing our stores and lowering our property values. They call them Mexi-Cali Mexicans - the ones even Mexico didn't want - that hop the fences and come into the desert. It seems that law enforcement can't or won't do much about it either.

Well, I don't know how it is in Cali, but I know when I see them here it's usually a group of 5 or so men that bust their asses daily doing whatever job they can get. On the other hand, we have blacks(this might sound racist, sue me) that have jobs that they either don't show up for, or if they do show up for them they have an attitude about it and most of the time they are playing with one another instead of doing the damn job they're being paid for. This doesn't apply to all blacks, just the worthless ghetto trash that I mentioned earlier. Even white trash trailer park folk go to work and make a living, what the hell is the problem with the blacks?


And I know all about people having to learn spanish to get a job. My mother moved out to Vegas a while back and couldn't get a nursing job because her spanish is rusty from not speaking it on a regular basis since my grandfathers passing, he was Puerto Rican in case you're wondering..

All of the illegals I've ever met work like dogs. My husband used to be a restaurant manager for Holiday Inn and his Spanish is pretty much limited to anything that's said in a kitchen. He always had the highest respect for his kitchen staff.

In a way, that's part of the problem. The influx of illegals is causing hospitals to go broke and close in droves. It's causing more problems than you can possibly count, and the Border Patrol - despite having very snazzy uniforms - has no real power to do anything. (You can walk up to a Border Patrol agent in downtown San Diego and say "Hi, I'm an illegal" and all he can say is "excuse me, but we call you 'undocumented immigrants' now" because he has no arrest powers away from the border.) It's made a mess of California. But then...how do you not have respect for a guy who'll strap himself to a car engine just so he can work a minimum wage job, live in a hovel and send the money back to his family?

To say the problem is complex doesn't begin to cover it. I don't have any faith in the people who are supposed to be coming up with some kind of solution, either.
