You are right, of course - that IS an exaggerated fictional example. But there's also the saying that truth can sometimes be stranger than fiction. Many of these scientific "predictions" are just guesstimates... they could be off by weeks, months or years. Whenever someone says "don't worry, it won't happen in our lifetime" I cringe... cuz really, who knows?

Then again - life is too short to spend it worrying about stuff that may/may not ever happen. I wonder if the people of Sri Lanka had any inkling of what was to come a week or more ago?

The world freezing over is pretty low on my list of concerns.
