You are quite right, of course. Freedom of speech is vastly over-rated.

The former leaders of the Soviet Union would have known what to do about Moore, as would the much-lamented departed leader ship in Germany (1945 for one half, 1990-ish for the other). The contemporary Chinese would know what to do, too.

Come to think of it, Saddam Hussein would have known what to do, too.
