I have premiere here, on a matrox Xtreme pro setup. Apple Final Cut Pro 4 seems very good as well, especially with the "shake" program attached. With this stuff you can produce up to and including broadcast quality. A number of films in Sundance this year were done with FCP4 and a thing called "Magic Bullet" to get the coloring right.
It depends what you are editting... and how much you are willing to learn. If you just want to do snip cuts and crap, you can almost use just the windows movie maker thing. Alex
