ALBU MUHAWISH, Iraq - U.S. soldiers evacuated an Iraqi military compound on Sunday after tests by a mobile laboratory confirmed evidence of sarin nerve gas. More than a dozen soldiers of the Army's 101st Airborne Division had been sent earlier for chemical weapons decontamination after they exhibited symptoms of possible exposure to nerve agents.

Any official verification of this?

Sarin dissipates quickly so the fact that there is a positive test for it is an excellent sign it is nearby or was spilled recently, etc.

Interesting article - this is good news.

I have no doubt we will find all kinds of things. We need to win the war, then talk to the people who know. The scientists, technitians - those who are involved with the program but could not talk because of threats of death to their family.

The first three weeks have been wonderful for this war, I am very proud of my country, and our fine soldiers and leaders!

I guess they couldn't hide them all. If I were Syria, I wouldn't let Sadam move nerve gas into my country, either.

So much for Sadam the Angel, huh?

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. forces near Baghdad found a weapons cache of around 20 medium-range missiles equipped with potent chemical weapons, the U.S. news station National Public Radio reported on Monday.

NPR, which attributed the report to a top official with the 1st Marine Division, said the rockets, BM-21 missiles, were equipped with sarin and mustard gas and were "ready to fire." It quoted the source as saying new U.S. intelligence data showed the chemicals were "not just trace elements."

It said the cache was discovered by Marines with the 101st Airborne Division, which was following up behind the Army after it seized Baghdad's international airport.

U.S. Central Command headquarters in Qatar had no immediate comment.

The United States and Britain launched the war against Iraq to rid the country of weapons of mass destruction. Iraq denies having such weapons.

c'mon, you know that the evidence was planted by CIA and I trust Canadiens who were telling us all along that Iraq is a peaceful country and we shouldn't go there!

I haven't heard *any* reports of the missiles with the agents, but the big news right now is that they've found barrels disguised and buried at a pesticide plant. They tested positive for the nerve agents Sarin and Tabun, and the mustard gas Lewisite.
About a block away is a firing range and training area, and a block away in the other direction there are things that make them believe that the actual bombs are made there.
The soldiers in that area are breaking out in skin rashes and complaining of nausea, they've been put through decontamination showers and everyone else has put their chem suits back on.
Scary stuff.

Debka has a blurb up now about the missiles loaded with chems:
http://www.debka.com/
And also another site south of Hindala where they believe they've found more Sarin.

And this frightening quote:
Earlier Monday, Israeli defense minister Mofaz warned: "These are critical days. Danger to Israel is not over. Saddam with his back to the wall may take irrational decisions. The combination could be fatal."

Suspected WMD site in Iraq turns out to contain pesticide

A facility near Baghdad that a US officer had said might finally be "smoking gun" evidence of Iraqi chemical weapons production turned out to contain pesticide, not sarin gas as feared.

A military intelligence officer for the US 101st Airborne Division's aviation brigade, Captain Adam Mastrianni, told AFP news agency that comprehensive tests determined the presence of the pesticide compounds.

Initial tests had reportedly detected traces of sarin - a powerful toxin that quickly affects the nervous system - after US soldiers guarding the facility near Hindiyah, 100 kilometres south of Baghdad, fell ill.

Captain Mastrianni said a "theatre-level chemical testing team" made up of biologists and chemists had finally disproved the preliminary field tests results and established that pesticide was the substance involved.

He said that sick soldiers, who had become nauseous, dizzy and developed skin blotches, had all recovered.

The turnaround was an embarrassment for the US forces in the region, which had been quick to say that they thought they had finally found the proof they have been actively looking for that Iraq was hiding weapons of mass destruction.

A spokesman for the US army's 3rd Infantry Division, Major Ross Coffman, had told journalists at Baghdad's airport that the site "could be a smoking gun".

"We are talking about finding a site of possible weapons of mass destruction," he said.

The fact that the coalition forces have come up with no clear evidence of WMD after capturing much of Iraq in 19 days of fighting has raised questions over the war's justification.

we should have waited 'till they blow up Manhattan first.

It is VERY cowardice of the American war mungers to use UN as a "Humnan Shield"

If any chemical weapons are "found" they were probably planted by the CIA!! If Hans Blix, and the United Nations could not find them in years of searching - then they did not exist!

I cannot believe you guys are falling for this!! Saddam and Iraq are peaceful people, who have no need for chemical weapons! It is the United States who owns more weapons of mass detruction then all other nations combined!!

Down with Bush!!!
