As far as with the video patents, I have not heard anything in a while. I think they are waiting on court dates and all the discovery. As of Nov 18 the news referred to it as "Acacia is involved in ongoing litigation over these patents with several adult entertainment, cable and direct broadcast satellite
companies which refused to enter license agreements." Think they have been spending their time going after universities. Also found this (it might be the reason for the current high): December 05, 2005 07:00 AM US Eastern Timezone Acacia Technologies Enters into License and Settlement Agreement with Matsushita Electric NEWPORT BEACH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 5, 2005--Acacia Research Corporation (Nasdaq:ACTG)(Nasdaq:CBMX) announced today that IP Innovation, LLC, AV Technologies, LLC, and New Medium Technologies, LLC, all wholly owned subsidiaries that are part of the Acacia Technologies group, have entered into a license and settlement agreement with Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd., covering patents that apply to Audio/Video Enhancement and Synchronization, and Image Resolution Enhancement technologies. The agreement with Matsushita resolves a patent infringement lawsuit which was pending in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois Eastern Division. November 29, 2005 07:00 AM US Eastern Timezone Acacia Technologies Acquires Rights to Patents for Archiving and Transmitting Medical Images NEWPORT BEACH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 29, 2005--Acacia Research Corporation (Nasdaq:ACTG)(Nasdaq:CBMX) announced today that Acacia Patent Acquisition Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary that is part of the Acacia Technologies group, a leader in technology licensing, has acquired rights to patents relating to Picture Archiving and Communications Systems (PACS) used in archiving and transmitting medical images. "Acacia's revenue growth in 2005 is primarily being driven by new licensing programs for patented technologies that we acquired this year," commented Paul Ryan, Chairman and CEO of Acacia. "The PACS technology is the 32nd patented technology that we have acquired this year. We plan to continue acquiring new patent portfolios as we move more toward our goal of becoming the leader in technology licensing," concluded Mr. Ryan.
