Legend has it that the reason saloon owners would put sawdust on the floors is so that gold miners would not notice when flakes or small pieces of gold would fall from their pockets, etc. onto the floor.
At the end of the night, the sawdust was swept up by the owner and inspected for any fallen gold. |
