Dianna, its a pain in the ass, but unfortunately its just part of doing business on the internet ...
I use a program called 'spamkiller' which allows you to set up complex filters based on sender, text etc. anything with 'click here to remove' in it, (for example) gets 'marked' automatically and put into a different folder. i can browse it if I want to just in case it catches something important. plus, it marks all the emails it sees as 'suspicious' but leaves them in your inbox ... you can add a filter if you wish when 'new' spam tricks get used its not a perfect solution, but it cuts my email from around 450 messages per day to about 200 so its worth it i've also used the "program@domain" method for several years, but I find that it doesn't make much difference any more ;-( spammers have gotten less interested in whether they are busted selling lists etc ... especially for mainstream stuff. when I do receive it, and know where it was sent from, what do I do about it? nothing that's not an even bigger waste of time than deleting the email in the first place ... unfortunately ;-( a smart spammer will always filter out all emails with their own name/email/company in them anyway, right nick? :P |
