Is the weather getting more extreme due to global warming or is the weather just normal, while we keep telling us self, that the weather was much better years/decades ago? (selective memory?)... anyone know?

There are long term tropical weather patterns related to sea temperature, ElNino/La Nina, tradewinds, upper level winds, the Atlantic High and the African rainy season. This is called the "multi-decadal signal". The Atlantic entered the above normal signal beginning in 1995. Prior to that, the last such period was the 50s and 60s culminating in Camille.
