And after all of the discussion about what needs to change, it is of course the exact same stuff at the Palms that everyone has bitched about for the past two years.

They do promise cheaper room rates in the block. I guess that means a regular room at Palms this year will only cost $100 more than a suite on the strip rather than twice the cost.

This is very likely to be the first January show I've missed in many years. The last two years have left a really bad taste in my mouth for reasons we've stated multiple times. I could go the rest of my life without ever setting foot in the Palms again and be happy about it.

I'm guessing that this will likely be the LAST January Internext, at least as a stand alone show.

Toby, not only do I think this is the last stand alone Internext in Vegas, but I have a feeling it potentially might not even really come off.

The general opinion on all boards last year was that the Palms sucked. They were rude to clients, they screwed up the rooms, the show floor is a disaster, attendance wasn't all that good, and many people can't imagine paying that much money for a badge to get back into a show in that place.

I'm on the "not going" list already. Except for the chance to play poker at the MGM and a few other places, I can't justify going to Internext. Funny, I can almost justify AEE, which shows how much things have changed.

Id much rather get a vegas fix after the hihg prices and hang with some friends there and potentially arrange a concnt pool for shooting.

Yeah, but Vegas in general is more than 50% off... no magic tricks.

Lowest room prices: 299 saturday, 159, 159, 159, 109 to the 13th, or $885us for 5 nights (come saturday, leave early thursday morning) + airfare.

MGM, same dates... including airfare from Montreal: $781 canadian.

My guess is that the hotel at the Palms is probably still about $50-$75 a night over the going rates in vegas right now.

Those rooms are dog shit.
The staff there sux.
The food there sux.
The gambling there sux.

The center bar is too small to accommodate even the small crowd last year.

I spent more time OFFSITE than I did on last year.
The show floor is a joke.
Zero return on a badge investment for most people I talked too.
Unless something changes I wont be going for the first time in many years as well but will opt to go out after the show when things are cheaper and arrange to meet with others.

Exactly.

AVN is obviously stuck riding a couple of bad long term contract decisions. Unfortunately, in these days of ROI, I'm not going to subsidize their bad decision making. I'm going to do what's right for me and my business.

So Palms agreed to cut price in half for the rooms, unfortunately that still leaves them priced at over twice the going rate for that level of accomodations.

I left Palms during the day last year after there was no place to sit at center bar and we convened court at the food court. Hey, if you cant buy people drinks, most people like milkshakes too! But that quickly got old with the steady stream of local grandmas coming in for their free pulls. Though I was amused watching people drop off small children at the baby pound they have there. Sorry, just wasn't conducive to doing porn business when I gotta worry about offending someone's mom or grandma.

Came back once at night for one of the parties only to find that every seat in the entire club was "reserved". No one was sitting there mind you, but they were reserved and the club was very quick to make sure you didn't sit in any of them. After 10 minutes of that, I left and never came back onsite.

Had lots of dinners and fun offsite with friends and folks i WANTED to see. AVN actually made it more difficult for me to do business than it was for me to facilitate it myself.

Well http://www.Caro.Net will have a booth at AVN and we will be in attendance at Internext but this new format they implemented a few back using RAIN as the show floor really sucks. The circle bar there is a better place to conduct business and if you have seen there circle bar you know that isn't meant as a complement.

I will be going to Vegas this year for a whole week for AEE & Internext, just as I do every year since AEE was a curtained off section of CES. But I agree that the Palms is not that great. The place is full of cigarette smoke with almost no ventilation, the show floor in a nightclub is pretty lame in my opinion and everything is grossly overpriced. I will be staying across the street at the Gold Coast during Internext and hopefully be using a free badge from a sponsor or contest. Going inexpensively makes for a better ROI on my part.

I haven't been to Vegas in over 25 years, it doesn't impress me as a fun place to go back to. But wow! You guys are all industry vets and certainly not giving the show any ringing enforsements, perhaps that's a good sign it's time to return, lol...

I'm going to consider it, at least my man LAJ will be havin' fun..

Hmm.. seems more than a few here aren't happy with the decision. Vegas is always a too many distractions for biz kinda place to my lime if thinking anyways.

it's called long term contracts. Internext appears to have signed a 5 year agreement with the Palms for the event, so they are sort of locked into the location. There is no way to address the shiteousness of the location or facilities because that is what they have to work with, hands tied.

The circle bar is tiny, the casino has a "locals" feel to it, and the show floor in a night club is a laughable concept. Doubly so because they more money you spend, they more you get to be alone (high up in the roller rooms, 3 or 4 floors up). The actual visible show floor is about the size of a hotel suite. The rest is walking up and down stairs, trying to find people - only to discover that the true "rollers" never go to the show, they are off eating at nice places, staying out all night partying, and sleeping all day. Want to do business? Between 3 and 5 AM is likely the best time.

I went last year for the first time in a few years (last one before that was at Mandalay) and I have to say I was very disappointed. It gave me plenty of time to play poker and pay the bills, but the ROI on the show was effectively nil. I can make more on ICQ.

While I certainly understand peoples' complaints about ROI at the show, I'm still baffled by people's reactions to the Palms. Audrey and I love the place and we're there at least a couple times a week. Never had a single problem with staff, they're always very nice to us, and we love the restaurants and bars, esp. The Playboy Club.

I do have to say as small business owners, the show floor did nothing for us last year. When you already have things like an affiliate program, a hosting company, a CMS, shoot your own content, and have a payment processor, there's very little in the way of new and interesting things for us to look at. The people were the best part about last year, and yeah, we did most of our networking away from the show floor.

Well... As I've always said... a show is what you make of it. There is still business to be had for me and I'm there representing several interests for both AEE and Internext. Besides, I love going to Vegas.

The shows are what you make them for yourself. Yes, they need to adjust some, but so do the mind-set of the people attending them. Just my 2 cents.
