I swear whenever I bellow at my cats for doing something they understand every word and run like hell. However, what they're thinking is "we'll take another run at that when she's not looking."

Another way I know they understand is that I use their names when bellowing. The unamed cats don't even twitch, even though Mommy's voice is rattling the rafters. The guilty one takes off.

Oh. I just looked at the Humane Society calendar on the wall next to my desk. October is "Adopt A Dog Month."

It also says "Your dog has sort of a 'sixth sense' that allows him to understand your mood. He accomplishes this by being a master at reading body language, and can detect subtle changes in voice, tone and posture."

They can also predict seizures in epileptics.
