Powerslave for me. When I started listening to heavy metal back in '83, Iron Maiden was the first band I listened to. Number of the Beast was the first album I heard from them and then in 84 powerslave came out and havn't stopped listening to it since. Don't know why.

If you would have asked me last year I would have said Powerslave.

But this year I am gonna have to go with The Number of the Beast.

Where Bruce makes his first appearance. Cmon, run to the hills, children of the damned, number of the fucking beast. This album almost single handedly created and defined an entire genre of metal. All of melodic death, black, scandinavian death, metalcore, owe it all to Iron Maiden.

I dont like later maiden, I forget they exist after Powerslave.

Piece Of Mind
first Maiden album I owned (I had the coolest mother in the world, she bought it for my birthday)

top to bottom, a great album especially "The Trooper" and "Flight Of Icarus"

(did any else learn history from Maiden albums? ;-))

Bah, I owned Killers when I was a kid, and there is no way you can say Bruce is not superior.

But Murders in the Rue Morgue is a magnificent song. I would play that song over and over when I was a kid. Got to where my mom could almost sing along.

Damn, they must have remastered that hard, it sounds fantastic. way better than I remember.

I actually still have Killers and even Maiden Japan...
Piece of Mind was the first album from them I'd owned though.

Bruce is a much better vocalist than Paul D'ianno was. Blaze wasn't bad, he just had big shoes to fill and IMHO, he sounds better now with Iced Earth.

Anyone else have the old Samson album "Head On" with Bruce Dickinson (calling himself Bruce Bruce) singing and that dude Thunderstick playing drums?

Have to agree, they are a better band with Bruce and may have never reached the level of success without him

Didn't post to the fav Iron Maiden song thread but Murders is it

Steve Harris is an amazing bass player, huge influence (along with Billy Sheehan) for me when I was playing

Cheap ass early MTV video

Which album had Eddie walking down a street with a bunch of famous bars on it?
Hammerjack's (where I was a glam fag regular for years) was one of the bars

Just because it was already on the domain and I love Cradle of Filth.

Cradle of Flith cover of Hallowed Be Thy Name.

COF, they love Satan... a lot.

What I wouldnt give to be Danny Filth for a weekend. He must be so sick of goth ass by now.

Who else does a good Maiden cover?

Yeah, COF has a fun, loving relationship with the dark lord...

I kinda like Arch Enemy's cover of "Aces High"

Iron Maiden without Bruce Dickinson is like a meaty cock without a nutsack. I think Blaze Bailey was talented, but it just wasn't right. My favourite album.. Toss up between Powerslave and Number of The Beast. But there's not much Maiden that i don't like.

I think we are the same age, what a great show that must have been. I would have killed to see that at that age.

My first show... Depeche Mode. 16, music for the masses tour. Girlfriend at the time was little emo goth girl. Wasnt a bad show really. Bout as good as 3 guys on keyboards could be in the mid 80s.

Ive never seen Iron Maiden live, an empty space in my heart that will never be filled. I dont want to see contemporary stadium maiden. Oh to have a time machine...

I turned 30 in Jan. i see more and more people in this industry about the same age. It's cool because we all grew up when no good shit was going on. Except maiden and a few other things....
Amen.

It was an ugly growth period for metal, but we were lucky to witness the birth of a genre. Although I wish I could have been born a little earlier so I could have witnessed the really early punk and glam metal like the Dolls and Stooges etc.

I try and picture being 70 and listening to Cradle of Filth. Its going to happen. And its not like my taste in music gets any better. There has never been a better time for metal than right now. Its so fucking good, so much crossover, the kids of today who grew up on the old school and getting heavy doses of all that death related sub genres of metal are really doing some great things. 80s style thrash is creeping into all kinds of shit lately, I never thought thrash would come back.

Metal. A reason for living. Metal will never nag or cheat on you.

Damn, this thread brings back memories. I partied with them one night after they played a little bar called summers on the beach in Fort Lauderdale. YEARS ago, I don't even think the bar is there anymore or the Holiday Inn they where staying at a block away.

Actually where great guys to hang with for the night.

Thanks for the fast trip on memory lane

I love all the Maiden albums but I would have to say Somewhere In Time was my all time favorite for some reason.

"Piece of Mind" and Powerslave are pretty close for me. I really couldn't decide a favorite between those two.

Sometimes I wonder if we were twins seperated at birth. If that is the case, I obviously got all the penis girth and length and left you with a mangina.

The first time I heard Run to the Hills with Steve Harris having that fucking seizure on the bass I was thinking "holy fuck" I think I was maybe 12 years old, was a few years after it came out. And if I thought that was an amazing album, you should have seen my eyes when I was introduced to Black Sabbath's music.

I always thought Dave Murray looked like one of those garden gnomes though. He's got those cheeks I would like to pinch in a completely non-homoerotic fashion.

I rotated between Iron Maiden, Venom, Slayer, Metallica, Anthrax and AC/DC....the years from about 1980-1984, I can't remember if I owned anything other than metal shirts...well, until 1984 or so and I bought a sleeveless union jack tshirt...

I ordered from the back of Hit Parader and Rip magazine like women order from Victoria's Secret catalogues
