WASHINGTON — Drug enforcement agents Wednesday arrested at least 18 persons and halted prescription writing by dozens of doctors and a pharmacist in a crackdown on illegal Internet medication sales.

Thirteen arrests were made in Texas and five in Florida. The Drug Enforcement Administration suspended the registrations of 20 doctors and 22 Internet pharmacies in the United States and Puerto Rico to stop them from writing or filling prescriptions.

Agents also shut down at least 4,600 Web sites that the suspects controlled and seized 2,400 checks and money orders written by individuals for $200 each. They also seized seven luxury cars and boxes of cash.

The yearlong multiagency investigation was dubbed Operation CYBERx.

Authorities have started legal procedures to seize several homes belonging to those arrested, valued at about $7.85 million.

Among the suspects were five persons that the DEA alleged were the ringleaders: Johar Saran of Arlington, Texas; Gaston Blanchet and Gil Lozano of Miami; S. Ted Solomon of Orlando, Fla.; and Steve Rosner of Boca Raton, Fla.

were some of these guys really making this much money? anyone know? crazy shit. how can you do that and think you will not get pressure or prosecuted... escpecially after the DEA made it clear for years that this is a huge issue that they will clamp down on.

I agree with you Nick - but it isn't exactly clear where the line of legality is. Even companies doing it 'by the book' most liekly are violating some sort of federal law. For example every 2 years you are supposed to see your patient face to face.. That's one of the ones i heard recently.

I think this is an intruiging area of internet commerce that will be under scrutiny until regulations are set firmly. In the mean time the companies doing things for the most part by the book (mainly meaning requesting medical records that are recent PRIOR to writing a script etc) will be fine .. Not that I would want to be one of them, just saying ...

I will give you an idea of what they make if they are successful

My wife has a lot of pain from various thing, and every now and then has to take something. We order norco's from www.norcoworldwide.com

We had an order mixup one time and one of the reps let some info slip that put things into a HUGE perspective

When my wife called the sales rep let it slip, or maybe didn't care, and told my wife that there was approx 423 orders taken to the pharmacy that she had to go through on that day to find my wife's order

now, suppose an average order is $100 (which my wife's is), that is $42,300 for that one day...and with that kind of volume, you have to imagine they are getting the drugs for pretty cheap, i would imagine $.10 or $.20 a pill

so, yes, if done correctly, someone could open up shop for 6 months and live nicely for the rest of their life off that 6 months of being open

now, norcoworldwide.com has a LOT of employees, you can call 3-4 times a day for 3-4 days and never talk to the same person, we have had to do that before...but even with employee pay subtracted from the overhead, it is still a shit ton of money being made

BTW I am prescribed Xanax... by a LEGITIMATE Psychiatrist for my nerves.. I have cut down ALOT - Used to be 4-6 mg a day ... now I am .5 mg X 5.day and lowering it slowly hopefully to be nearly off it in a year or two.. I was told I could literally die going cold turkey....

For people who don't need it I don't see how the 'high' or whatever would do anything for ya.. When I started taking it and had no tolerance (was on .25 mg tabs) I got some 1 mg tabs from a friend.. I took up to 3 of the .25's at a time and popped all three of the 1 mg's ... WOW ... my ass was dizzy and passed out right away..

So all I saw it did when I guess I abused it (even though it was accidental) was that I got really really tired plus a high that wasn't all that great.. just relaxing.. Now if you are taking it because u need to chill out and need it for your nerves I could see why you would want it, but a good legitimate family doctor should be able to prescribe some sort of benzo to help out .. such as time released clonazepam

I used to take Xanax, and could never figure out why it had any street value. (And yes, Ryan, you can fuck yourself up *seriously* going cold turkey, you *never* do that...you come off that stuff very, very slowly...the slower the better.)

I'm on Klonopin (clonazepam) now and it works fine for me. I have a seizure disorder that's triggered by anxiety attacks (that's a fun combo) and the Klonopin really helps.

No, I'm more of a "little yellow tablet" patient. I take a fistfull of meds four times a day and won't take anything that changes the way I take meds. My med box has four slots - the three times a day meds and the twice a day meds go into it nicely. 6AM, 8AM, 2PM and 8PM. (Three times a day are the 6-2-8, and twice a day are the 8 and 8.) I once had a doctor try and prescribe something I'd have to take four times a day and I said "absolutely NOT. I'm not set up for that!!" He handled it well.

Oh, i hear ya...my wife is the same way, or was, until she had all her surgeries to alleviate her troubles

she now doesn't have any daily medications, which makes her extremely happy, but it took almost 3 years of constant surgeries and procedures to get here though
