This might just get me to switch from cable modem -- if the price is right!
Verizon Offering 20 Times Faster Internet Connections The Tampa Tribune Published: Jul 19, 2004 Verizon Communications Inc. said Monday that Tampa Bay area homes and businesses will be able to access the Internet at rates up to 20 times faster than the company's current high-speed Internet offering. New York-based Verizon has begun building fiber-optic cable to homes and businesses in New Tampa, and plans to have the fiber reach about 100,000 homes and businesses throughout Hillsborough County by the end of the year. With fiber - which transmits voice, data and video by a faster-moving pulse of light instead of electricity like Verizon's aging, copper-wire network - people will be able to download items at speeds up to 30 megabytes per second. Verizon's current high-speed Internet, digital subscriber line (DSL) service, downloads at a maximum of 1 1/2 megabytes per second. The increased speed will allow the largest U.S. local telephone company to offer people Internet-based telephone service and video, including cable television to compete with Bright House Networks by sometime in 2005. Verizon plans to spend about $100 million to replace its copper-wire network with fiber in the Bay area, said Alan Ciamporcero, Verizon southeast region president. http://news.tbo.com/news/MGBPZ10ZUWD.html

Don't even think of changing sharky. We have the 1.5 from Verizon here as an option. As a matter of fact we used it for all of the first 3 weeks we lived here. It sucked completely, and it's been nothing but a nightmare getting them to stop billing us for it even though we cancelled it in March. I just went around with them again last week.

To be honest I had the same problem with them when I switched to Cable. They billed me for a year, sent me to collections, etc. I had a nice guy call from the collections agency that finally sorted everything out. Fortunately I saved every bit of communication I had with them, including several certified letters. Regardless, seems like a nice service... but thanks for reminding me of my problems!

Sharky,
damm 30 meg downloads would be sweet Users in parts of South Korea and Japan have those speeds for like $40-50.00 per month. We have verizon also for phone service, the reason it sucks alot if they use Msn for the bandwith, too many hassles. I would get the 30 meg service when it comes here Keep comcast cable for a slow backup!!!

the servers/bandwidth/scripts I access wouldnt handle the connection fully.
it'd only be good for downloading 100 porn videos at a time from p2p. Regular cable modem gives you all you need.
