I was talking to a guy about a webmaster program Im creating.
It will have a payout of $50 per trial join for the more productive webmasters.
He tells me people wont trust me.....theyll think im shaving.
Are webmasters generally this suspicious?
How do I overcome this, as I have every intention of providing what is promised and retaining quality webmasters.
What the consensus?
Cheers
I think it's the newbies that are attracted to the high payouts, most companies offer the high payouts because many others are already and to draw the newbies in and then they shave your ass off. Experienced webmasters realize this and prefer reasonable payouts that both the sponsor and affiliate can benefit from and is not as likely to be shaved since the sponsor doesn't have to save his ass on offering $50 payouts on trials.
"my bitch better have my money
not "some", not "half"... but ALL my cash
cause if she dont...
i'm gonna put my foot right dead in that ass"

If a company has a high payout they must be shaving?
Only newbies are attracted to high payouts?
From feedback here and elsewhere im assuming higher payouts do not make for a significant competitve advantage.
What could a program offer that would set it apart from the rest
within reason

JR, here is a full version
bitch better have my money. Through rain, sleet, or snow, my hoe better have my money. Not half, not some, but all my cash. Because if she don't, I'll put my foot dead in her ass.

it sounds like you are planning on losing some serious $ soon. you should take it slow before you set most of your money on fire just to see what happens. there is a lot to learn, a lot to know and a lot of money to be lost and mistakes to be made.
you are asking a pretty silly question: "what can i do to be innovative, unique, better, more appealing" etc. people here do not make the money they do because they sell roadmaps to success. they make the money they do because for the most part, they talk very little about what they are doing, how it works, why it works and what the future plans are.
there is no shortcut. you are talking about a very mature and saturated market and very experienced people controlling the bulk of traffic. this is a business built first on personal relationships first, good ideas second.
i doubt anyone here can sum up the last 7-8 years, the changes, the evolution, the state of affairs today and the general direction things are heading in a couple meaningful paragraphs.
business is business.
risk, lose, learn, grow (repeat if necessary - and know beforehand that it usually is)
im not planning on setting any $ on fire in the near future.
people assume a maximum payout of $50 means there is a loss involved.
if you do the math of my particular program, depending on referal numbers, you should come up with some sort of idea.
i assumed asking webmasters (they are the client) what they want would be a smart way of providing something of value
as an observer of 4 years or so I wouldnt regard myself to be a complete newb, although i understand the assumption
so please, im not after lectures as to the nature of the industry and its saturation level, im after specifics.....why do you chose one program as opposed to another
payout?
tools?
relationships?
anything?
cheers

you are asking the same people you plan on competing with.

if my comments were aimed at competitors they would be rather different to the above.

un1t, quite honestly, if you need to ask these questions in 2003 the best advice anyone can give you is: don't do it. The margins are tiny and the volumes can be huge, if you don't know what you're doing you can lose a LOT of money.
If you start buying sign-ups for premium cpa payouts today it may take you 6 month to even know if you'll be able to turn a profit 12 months after the day you started your proggy.
If you don't have a few million or at least a few hundred thousand to burn without getting nervous about it then your only option is a revshare type program.
