The northern lights streamed over Anchorage on Saturday night. This image, taken from the Glen Alps viewing deck, is six photos pieced together digitally to form a panorama looking north across the Chugach Range. (Photo by Scott McGee)

That is just incredible! Dumb question: do the Northern Lights move like they do when you see them on TV or are they showing them in fast motion? I'm sorry that sounds ignorant, but I really don't know and always wondered.

Thanks for the pic!!

Hey Quashe,

Nope, this is the only version of the pic I have. It was posted on the Newspaper's website.

The strange thing is, you can't take a picture of the Northern Lights with a digital camera.

I guess you need a tripod, special film and you have to set the exposure up a certain way. I'm not sure how to do it.

Yeah, they move pretty fast.

As long as it's dark enough to really see it, sometimes the lights flicker as fast as lights in a club.. or almost like sunlight shimmering on water.. It's really trippy!
That is so cool.
