What's the next big thing?

People moved from Adult Audiotex into the Adult Net. Especially in hindsight, It seems like a natural progression.

Is there another progression happening now? Is there something coming?

I know a lot of people have been taking profits from the Adult Net and investing in other ventures.. Restaurants, Video Games, Magazines, Real Estate..

What else are people investing in? What does the future hold?

This seems appropriate

Video streaming subscription services will take off in the next several years, according to a new study, which estimates that the market's value will reach $4.5 billion in 2007.

Marc De has some, Ryan Lanne (sp) I think opened one and then closed it - ditto with DK down in Antigua.

I've known many people to open restuarants and IMHO, unless it's a franchise (which I think is what Marc has), it's a 1 in 100 crapshoot and more work than I'm willing to do, lol!

Diversification is very important.... especially with the golden years of internet porn long gone.

I have invested money in property, but mostly for long term investment - most of it is not bringing in any income.

Infact most of my previous investments have been longer term asset appreciation investments with no interest in bringing in income. I have been forced to change this way of thinking, and am now looking to invest in things that produce yearly income.

This could be property, bonds, stocks that pay dividends, etc....

I have also looking into the reaturant business, hoping to open up a http://sunraygrill.com in Tampa. I am friends with the owner, and am probably his #1 customer the past 5 years. I think the concept would do very well in Tampa, and with the expert experience of my friend, should make it successful.

But even then, reaturants do not make huge profits.

We have all been spoiled by crazy profit margins in this industry.

I am always keeping my eyes out.... I have another pet project I have been working on with the help of some friends from the porn biz. Its going to be a clothing line.... Once I get a product I will make sure Oprano is the first to know about it. ( Many of you I hav already talked to you about the idea, and got your feedback)

What is exciting to me about this project is I am working with 4-5 friends I met from the porn business, and we are all working on this together. It is kind of a cool idea, knowing you met a group of people in one biz ( an online biz at that) and can bounce ideas off of them for otehr businesses.)

Another idea I had was trying to create some kind of retreat for smart people I know. Get together 15-20 brilliant, innovative people that I know in a nice resort and have brain storming meetings. Maybe have everyone come to the retreat with one business idea ( or improvement of existing business) and then everyone brain storm off of it.

We recently had a retreat like this with DirectNIC owners.... it was fun, because we went out had nice meals, and partied a little, but also we came up with some great business ideas. ( Well Sig and Noah did anyway!)

Infact this kind of retreat 4 years ago is how we started InterCosmos in the first place. Sig and I flew, met Grimm and Noah in Phoenix and over 4 days had a lot of fun, threw out tons of ideas.... and ended up with InterCosmos Media Group.... which of course is the parent company of DirectNIC.

There are some very smart innovative people in this industry, and many are right here on Oprano. Maybe some kind of retreat should be set up! Nothing excites me more then brainstorming with brilliant people.

Nick, I am very happy with the progress of PureCash. I also think by holding off and launching when we did will pay dividends.

However, my number 1 fear is growing to fast, having webmasters that are cut lose from other programs signup and blow up our CB ratio.

This is why we have such a long approval process in place, and we will continue to refine it.

The future for this industry as far as affilaites will be searching for the CREME.... and cutting loose ( or not accepting) underperforming affilaites ( high CB ratios, low trial conversions, etc....)

While PureCash is in a disadvantage in many areas, starting off fresh means we can try to pre-empt many problems that have caused some larger programs to have problems.

I couldn't agree more ,Mike.

The tail will start biting many of the current A Class /B Class programs.
I see some "retiring" from the business prior to the crash to prevent the "ego damage" of watching an empire collapse in front of them.

As a fresh entity run by one of the most experienced teams on the adult web I think you may find yourself in a very strong position.

For myself,I have been fortunate in that I chose to crawl out of the Scotch bottle at the right time.

Running everything hands on again. (hell,I am even building sites myself and doing 14 hr days again;-) This does however lead to signups increasing and the benefits that brings.

I think you are on the money regarding traffic ,its going to be a time to pick and chose affiliates very carefully.
And ,I believe, in a few months, there will be loads desperate to send to a clean proggie.

For myself,I have, for the moment, gone the way of sending "my own traffic,to my own paysites" .

Its safe, and my thinking at the moment drives me to consolidate and ensure my corps ability to survive and change with the times.

I send very little traffic out, as having not done so in a major way for years, I fear the razor. Which I think many will sharpen in the coming months as it is the easiest way an affiliate program has of improving the bottomline.

For me then, its regroup, consolidate and strengthen.Accept the fact that the nuggets of gold are not lying there on the ground.
Now we have to dig for it.

In light of the gathering clouds, this is not the time I want to invest in restaurants ,clubs etc.

I have some property investments and some none adult ventures but these have no costs related to them, thankfully, now.

I'm sticking to what I know.Getting surfers to a website.I have some new ideas in the pipeline that which should be happening by Xmass, but that aside, for me,now is not the time to speculate.

I figure the whole affiliate model is going to change. Most of the programs will just hire people to build feeder sites for them.

We've already seen the increase in things like hosted galleries (kind of cuts the middleman out of the TGP picture).

The days of someone just signing up and being able to send traffic will be over and it will be a more selective process.

The big traffic senders will just start opening their own sites and sending their own traffic to themselves and others in tight little circles.

I also see porn site going to a more hybrid look. Instead of just providing jerkoff material, there will be more incorporation of news, sports, entertainment, stock quotes, etc. There are already some sites playing with this and I'm sure it'll increase. The more value a site owner gives their surfer, the better, IMHO.

There will always be that surfer that wants to jerk off to large breasted women sucking dicks and taking it up the ass, so there will always be a market for good old fashioned porno.

We'll probably also see an influx of new blood who don't know about the profit margins of days gone by and will be satisfied living off margins that are mere fractions of what they used to be.

Potato Chips....sounds crazy but it's like porn, something that everyone wants at some point, but with chips it's good for all ages

I just bought the master license to Michigan and some other states to launch franchises of this product. It's freshly made potato chips. Were starting out at large entertainment venues, and as the product gets known, we will expand into the wholesale end.

If all goes well, I will send plenty of bags out to vegas for the show in january!

We are in the final stages of approval for a wholesale wine and beer distributorship license... it's great. Huge exclusive terrories, gigantic margins, and most of the money is made by reorders. A bitch to get into because you are essentially becoming a licensed drug dealer... but trips to california wine country are now deductible!

Also real estate and another little biz that i'm sure i'll be telling you all about in about a month.

Diversification is a MUST.

I'll tell you all about the next big thing .....

....as soon as the Viagra takes effect

Actually I have my hand in a mainstream venture doing magic (illusions) kiosks in high traffic malls and now we are going to try airports
So far a little over break even ... will see where it goes

There may still be opportunities in cell phones, particularly in infrastructure and software but I need to do more research

LINK
"When most fishermen think of coming to Key West, they immediately picture battles with huge, acrobatic tarpon, speedy bonefish, or powerful permit. In winter, however, most of those fish have migrated to warmer climates or deeper water. Nevertheless, the fish that replace them during the colder months are also excellent fighters and much better to eat.

The waters near Key West are teeming with marauding schools of mackerel at this time of year. Most anglers can easily catch their daily limit of three to five pound cero and Spanish mackerel, and many king mackerel exceed forty pounds. In addition, one may find huge schools of redfish that range from ten to twenty-five pounds, and tuna are often abundant in the twenty pound class. "

keys sound pretty good for fishing

I agree margins are falling in the porn industry, crazy profits of a few years back just don't exist anymore

But, one thing that will be big, when it happens, is MPEG-7. It's still in development stages, and will have huge impact for mainstream media when it's at a marketable stage - but it will be something that opens up a whole new niche for the porn market.

You can read about MPEG-7 in google.. but the run down on it is you get powers to 'direct' a movie - you can write the script, you can choose what the 'actors' do - it's all virtual simulation. Same concept as annova.com has been worked on. So it obviously has a long way to go before it's mainstream, but when it does happen, if someone gets a patent on it, they will make a mint

Some of my customers are doing just that Sykk. Not to sound spammy, but since it's very much on topic. I remember when CE hired that group of 150 webmasters with something like with three or five supervisors to make traffic sites. Figured there had to be a better way, more automated, less overhead than recurring employee salaries, even be they part-time or limited-time.

To knock my own product (which I do all the time, privately, cause I'm always striving to constantly improve it), there are a couple of better paysite management ONLY scripts out there than CG. (That one part of CG needs some improving, even though it still makes killer image areas and that's the real bitch of getting a new paysite up and going; and what's lacking will be taken care of in the next major version.) But the one thing none of the other products out there have is "the whole ball of wax" to CG's level. Even sponsors who've had their own paysite CMSs created, have rarely ever bothered with going beyond that and created something that makes sites and galleries and POTDs ans such in order to generate their own traffic.

CE was very smart in what they did at that time. As to how they did it, a couple hundred webmasters over a year-and a half can now be accomplished with a single program and only a few employees now and in a fraction of the time. Can't beat that ROI. Definitely the way to go with what the future has in store is to build your own traffic and do it as cost-efficiently and as expediently as possible.

Agreed 100%. Exactly why we use a delay as well. It is amazing how clear cut the fraud is on some accounts. Catching these few fraudulent assholes really makes a difference.
