I knew HD was going to be big, that was obvious, SD was a 50 year old format, it was very sharp and it was past due to be replaced.

3D OTOH is a gimmick that comes around every 20 years or so, usually as a result of a popular mainstream movie, it gets hyped as the next big thing in video and then it promptly dies. I don't see that changing really. The 3D TVs I have seen are more annoying than anything else.

I expect the real next game changer will be UHD and wall sized TV screens that are about a quarter of an inch thick and weigh less than cardboard, the tuner will be separate the screen itself will be cheap and easily connected at any size.
