And your right Cleo its a stunning video... I think its pretty damn ingenious.
The colors and lighting remind me of the same type of display that you cant take your eyes off of because its so surreal.
Ive seen the same type of technique used for everything from Pee Wees playhouse down to some killer video podcasts. Its obvious that TV kept my attention when I was young because when something thats presented in this lighting with the bright colors then I am always distracted.
Its funny that you mention Madonna though ... shes certainly upped the ante.
I found this video over the weekend on facebook where they were talking about all the evil that exists in this world. Still none of the puritans can take their eyes off of it either.
Where they are drawn in by the flesh and prison girls its the colors that have me watching it.

Of course I go to Madonna - it is very reminiscent of the "Justify My Love" video in its calculated purpose to titillate and draw a response. You may recall that "Justify" was banned from MTV, and was one of (if not the) first video singles ever released for independent sale.
... Sound familiar?
Not to mention Ms. Ciccone's release of a coffee table book a few years later that was in production at the time the video was released - you may recall that it featured a number of pretty big names at the time, including *gasp* a porn star.
