When something doesn't make sense, i turn to occam's razor for the solution.
Occam would suggest there are 3 potential simple scenarios here:
1) He doesn't HAVE $350 to spare
2) He's high.
3) He has the business sense of a pile of dog feces.
I'm guessing some combo of all 3.
